Troy's Theme Song

Posted almost 5 years ago
So, Rawkkiddo asked "Do you have a theme song?" Well, in case you didn't know, EVERY good hero has a theme song. And mine is Sex, Drugs, Rap and Roll by Killer Mike. Now, on first listen, this song is just on some raunchy, rude shit. And, I'll give you that. With vivid accounts of "face-fuckin' and pill poppin'", I really can't deny the fact. But, to me, there's a lot beneath the surface. This is a song about grabbing life by the balls and squeezing it for everything it's worth. This is a song about enjoying the moment. Fuck it! It's YOUR LIFE! Ride until the wheels fall off. Just reading the lyrics (below) will give you the picture of some juvenile shit, but the passion in the delivery will put it all into perspective. Just listen!

  1. Rawkkiddoh says Adding it to my list, usually I dont let others pick out there own songs but I will break this rule for two reasons. 1. Monster is an incredible album and 2. Your love for the song

  2. TroyPowers says Wow...already familiar with Monster. I've underestimated you.

  3. Rawkkiddoh says Troy, one of my favorites. While my mog page might not give the impression that I listen to a lot of hip hop, its a genre I have been in love with since the 6th grade. On a trip to chicago when I was 11, I found a radio station there that was playing nothing but rap music. I took every tape I had, and recorded as much as I could while I was there. Somewhere in my parents attic I still have those tapes, and one of these days I will go back to find them. You name it, and if I thinks its good, I most likely own it.

  4. chucky says Eww... That being said (and it had to be) I think I kind of understand what you mean. When my sister was doing her time in Afghanistan I used to play One More Road to Cross by DMX - to me that was her theme song out there. Of course, that song has less than zero to do with being a soldier - but the energy and attitude seemed right.

  5. TroyPowers says Chucker: A friend of mine manages a couple local rappers, and I'm always telling him it really doesn't matter how great their lyrics are, if they can't deliver the song. You've just gotta have that abstract something, especially in rap, to transform a song from "Okay" to "Wow!" If his delivery was any different, this would just be another shallow, "I do a lot of drugs. I get a lot of pussy." song. But, instead, it's an anthem. It's an mantra!

  6. chucky says Very true. You have to have both to be great.
