WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Rock Band Song of the Week [or] Hindsight is Always 20/20

Posted about 1 year ago
So, yeah, I'm completely nuts for this video game Rock Band. I mean...come on...it's a video game where you get to be a rock star. What's not to love about that. Add to that, it's introduced me to a TON of new music. I mean, I really have an appreciation of rock music that just wasn't there before. I knew I was lost when I found myself walking to thy gym, holding my daughter's hand singing, "Heeeee's the one...who likes all our pretty songs...and he likes to sing along...and he likes to shoot his gun..."So, this week, my favorite song is one I downloaded by Garbage called "Why Do You Love Me?" In hindsight, I realize that the lyrics for this song make it much more appropriate for my previous Shirley Manson post. But, she's much sexier in the other video so...all's well.Anywayz, here's Shirley Manson and 3 other guys with "Why Do You Love Me."Oh, and if any of you haven't played Rock Band yet, shame on you. This game is ridiculously fun. Here's what a typical evening at the Powers house looks like. A few friends of mine performing "The Hand That Feeds."I'm not in this clip because I was doing the filming, but I expect there will be more to come. Might even get into shooting my own videos for the songs. :)

  1. contrabandwidth says Oh yeah, it sure is fun, I just can't justify the buck sixty for it yet...yet, I say.

  3. Lyrikhan says sure just post the clip of your friends looking stupid but not you ;) i did look at the list of songs in the game....pretty good stuff can your first music video be some Molly Hatchet "Flirtin' w/ Disaster"....just for my enjoyment?

  4. Shud33 says Okay Troy, I think we need to see your rock band talent! Although, I think we need to see you do Sabatoge! :) (I say that because that shit is hard!!!! Have you tried it?)

  5. TroyPowers says Contra: I was walking out of the store thinking, "I can't believe I just paid $180 for a video game!!!" I was sure I would regret it. But, I haven't one bit. Just the amount of play I get out of this game eclipses the last 5 games I bought combined. And just the insanity that gets started whenever I have a few people over is worth it. Pure fun. Spiders: That's Carla. She's Brazilian, so there are two things that come natural to her: dancing, and being a fucking nut. She's fun though. Oh, and the girl on drums is from Brazil also, thus the impromptu chant of "Creu, creu, creu, creu" in the middle of the song. :)

  6. TroyPowers says Lyrikhan: Sorry, there are quite a few songs ahead of that one in the running. Besides the song in this post, there are Troy-mixes of popular songs that I'd like to do. There's a cover of The Killers' "When You Were Young" I call "When You Eat Cum." Then there's a version of Foo Fighters' "Learn to Fly" entitled "I Got Too High." And let's not forget "I Know You're a Ho" conveniently jacked from "Go With The Flow" by QotSA. :) Shud: Haven't tried "Sabotage" yet. Not singing at least. But, it seems like it would be easy as there aren't any notes to hit. But, MAN, a friend of mine does a hilariously terrible "Roxanne"! Sick, Sick, Sick!

  7. Scotch says Man, I'm jealous that you have that game. I want it just for the drum controller. I've seen something about using the controller with a Mac/PC, so maybe I can skip buying a new gaming system. I kept thinking that girl dancing was going to hurt herself... seriously. :P

  8. contrabandwidth says That girls a friend? Now I don't know if the price is worth it without the back up dancer that I thought was included. I thought it was something akin to the Real Doll...

  9. TroyPowers says lol...sorry, she's not for sale. But, if you're talking renting...maybe we can work something out.

  10. waydutch says Troy- don't see you but do I hear you? Is that you laughing and calling for the big rock ending?

  11. TroyPowers says Yeah, that's me dying laughing and cheering them on. There's another video floating around (I think it's on my friend's youtube page) that shows me playing guitar, but it's not nearly as entertaining.

  12. Lyrikhan says haha well then i vote for "I Know You're a Ho"

  13. TroyPowers says Aww, man, "I Know You're a Ho" is a fan favorite. Always gets lots of laughs. Mostly because everyone knows I wrote it about my ex-wife. :D

  14. Sturgell says Being able to sing Nirvana with your daughter is all the reason enough to buy that game. That's nothing short of amazing! The generation gap is slowly starting to vanish. Watching that vid of you and them gals playing this game makes me want to give it a shot. I've played the guitar hero, once, and thought it sucked. Rock band on the other looks like fun.

  15. Shud33 says Sturgell...you have to try it..everybody is doing it. Oh come on..lol Seriously though, it is a good time. Especially when there is booze involved. :)

  16. TroyPowers says Sturgell, you thought Guitar Hero sucked? Playing GH is what made me buy Rock Band. It's like GH on crack. The whole group thing is what seals it. If you've got someone brave enough to sing these songs...the laughs never end. Shud, you on Xbox or PS?

  17. ROCKNROLLPIMP says haha that RAWKED i needed that laugh today... next time give somebody ELSE the camera
    Permalink posted 04/10/2008
  18. Scotch says I agree with Sturgell regarding GH. Maybe it's because I come from a guitar background, and GH is NOTHING like playing guitar. The only thing I'm really interested in RB for is the drum setup. I couldn't sing my way out of a wet paper sack, and I've already established that the guitar thing is frustrating...
