WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

The SOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLL TRAIN

Posted 6 months ago

A treat for those of you old enough and/or black enough and/or American enough to remember this awesome television program.

Highlights of this vid: Men with mullets singing in falsetto and an incredibly animated young man in an argile sweater-vest.

Damnit, man, you gotta love the 80s.

As a not old enough/ not black enough/ not American person, I have to say that I've heard of Soul Train, but I had never seen a clip from it.

    Till now.

Was I better off before? Let me think about that while I shorten my blazer's sleeves.

Anna, dear, Soul Train is a priceless piece of Americana.  I can't begin to tell you how great this show was.  Sure, 20 years later it seems pretty hokey, but Soul Train was a huge part of black culture and American culture as a whole.

Besides that, it was just a kick-ass show!  Great music, and the dancing...don't even get me started.

They invented the Soul Train Line for chrissakes!

    Now THAT'S some dancin'!

I wish I could find a clip of the opening where they say "The SOOOOUUUUUUULLLLLL train!"  Hilarious shit.

From what I know and see, I have no doubt.

Those dancers don't have any bones... no bones, I'm telling ya!

Don Cornelius! I'm convinced he was high most of the time. Fred Astaire said (in his last years) he stayed fit by dancing to Soul Train - can't fault that.

Man, Don started hosting that show in the 70's.  EVERYBODY was high!

Don't worry about the 80's brotha.  You will be VERY glad to know that Soul Train is coming back.

My homie's company is on the bidding table to do the marketing.  I'm telling you, if they would bring Soul Train, Arsenio Hall, and In Living Color back, it would be game over.

I am happy to say I can state that I am both american enough as well as old enough to remember this show. Black enough, not even with a full day spent in the sun.
