"I'll keep you my dirty little secret..."Well, secret no more. Hi, my name is Torch...("Hi Torch")...and I'm a Kelly Clarkson fan.
And I know I'm not the only one. There are a ton of you with KC in your music library. I'm just here to tell the rest of the support group that "Yes, it's ok. You can like Kelly Clarkson and still be cool, still be hip, still be considered to have good music taste."Simply put, here's why:
All too often, when people think of Kelly, they think of the teeny-bop pop that won her American Idol. They don't realize that she has made the leap. Similar to Christina Aguliera's jump from pop to adult contemporary with her Stripped album, Kelly has done the same with Breakaway. No longer is she trying to woo preteen dollars by singing about bubble gum, friendship bracelets, or cute boys. She's moved on to a more mature sound, something you might hear in a piano lounge back in the roaring 20s. And with all that, she can still kick it into gear and make the front row at her concerts hop and shout on every quarter note.I first realized that I needed to join this support group about 8 months ago. I was playing guitar in a small cover band earlier this year. We had a mixed group, with both the drummer and one of the singers being female. That opened up our potential playlist considerably. One of those songs we were practicing was Behind These Hazel Eyes. After a few work-throughs, the drummer said that she would need to work on the percussion for that track, because it's fairly challenging. I then offered up "Do you want to borrow..." and caught myself in mid-sentence before finishing with "..my Kelly Clarkson CD?" With my head bowed in embarassment, I thought I had a problem. However, in the months since I have completely changed my view and my pride. I like Kelly Clarkson and I refuse to be embarassed any more!Let go of your hate! Lift your head high!I like Kelly Clarkson! We are loud and we are proud!!!--Torch
