WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

When it isn't enough, you want "Para"more

Posted over 3 years ago
I present Paramore, my latest musical discovery (or at least, the one that no one else pointed me towards...). Previously dicussed by Tone Box "here":http://mog.com/Tone_Box/blog_post/2974, I actually caught wind of this pop rock band as I was browsing through CDs at the mall. The music store (I honestly don't remember which one) had their own closed circuit TV playing music videos and interviews and the video for Emergency came on. The video was pretty well done and the song rocked!I decided to mosey on over the Rock section and see if they actually carried the CD. To my luck they did. I listened to samples of all their tracks and decided that this one was worth getting (not at that store, mind you - mall retail is far too expensive!).When I sat down to listen to the whole production, I was not disappointed! This band plain rocks. You can also tell that they probably put on a good live show, because the music has that "jump around to the beat of the crowd" energy to it. You can feel the potential, but the one down side to the album is the production. You can almost hear the sound engineer pleading for more and more compression on the instrumental tracks during the recording session. As I've written "before":http://mog.com/Torch/blog_post/18061, I am not a fan of this...Despite that short-coming, I recommend the following if you are looking for some samples:"I've seen love die way too many times when it deserved to be alive (deserved to be alive) I've seen you cry way too many times when you deserve to be alive, alive So you give up every chance you get just to feel new again I think we have an emergency I think we have an emergency" - from Emergency, Track 3"Now that I'm losing hope And theres nothing else to show For all of the days that were spent carrying away from hope Somethings I'll never know And I had to let them go I'm sitting all alone Feeling empty I can feel the pressure..." - from Pressure, Track 2"Please speak softly or they will hear us and they'll find out why we don't trust them Speak up dear 'cause I cannot hear you I need to know why we don't trust them Explain to me this conspiracy against me, yeah And tell me how I lost my power, oh yeah" - from Conspiracy, Track 8 Unfortunately, they are not touring at the moment. However, I plan to monitor for shows at their "website":http://www.paramore.net/ and grab tickets to the closest venue I can find. I hold high expectations for their live show.If you're looking for a new chick-fronted pop/rock band, I highly recommend. Enjoy!--Torch

  1. Kwinnton says Good find! I've known about these guys for quite awhile and I have to agree with you, a very catchy band. I've got an EP which was an alternative version to Emergency with a more of a scream/hardcore edge to the chorus. Good stuff, glad you like them.

  2. RGM says Do they sound Like Venom? My Critiria is for today is I like them only if they sound like Venom, oh! The "At War With Satan," Album, and U2 is the worst band in the world.

  3. goodbyebluemonday says Paramore are awesome! You also might want to check out the Summer Tic EP if you haven't already - there's one song in particular on there called "Oh Star" that is amazingly beautiful.

  4. Violet Grey says I just took a listen on iTunes and I have to agree with you. There is definitely a lot of that-oh-so-slick studio production happening. It's almost to the point where, while everything is punchy, there is almost no sense of three dimensionality in the instruments. Everything is very clean and streak free, like it was never touched by human hands. Maybe I'm just jaded, but I just can't trust that records are actually recorded by people anymore. The songs have that very direct, ready for TV and movie soundtrack feel to them, where the band has been "advised" to cut out an of their normal eccentricities and just "get to the point". It's like a non- "metal" Evanessence, or a Taking Back Sunday with a female singer.

  7. Torch says OK - I feel somewhat guilty and I need to come clean. It wasn't the video for Emergency that I saw. It was the video for Pressure. Hopefully I can be forgiven, since this was the first time I ever heard of them...
