WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Re-introducing Tak to the American 90s

Posted over 3 years ago
I remember a few months ago I was over at "Tak's":http://mog.com/Takeshi_Kovacs place, playing guitar with he and "boozelegs":http://mog.com/boozelegs. We were playing a wide variety of stuff (from AC/DC to R.E.M.) and listening to some CDs I had brought over for Tak to borrow. That's when I put in Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel. Tak was floored. I don't know which emotion was stronger - his love for the music or the disappoinment for having not heard it until that point.See what you may not have read into his posts is that Tak missed the 90s. Or at least, he missed the American 90s and a lot of the good (but not great) music played here that didn't make the trans-Atlantic hop to his fatherland (Das ist gut).Tak can chime in with his personal feelings on the topic, but I really enjoy WBB+P. Stabbing Westward is a little darker than my usual tastes for music, but WBB+P is well worth the exception. Most folks are familiar with the two radio singles - What Do I Have To Do and Shame, but this album is so much more than that.Imagine the sobering emotions that flow after you've torn your voice through disappointment. And that's just a couple of tracks."You told me That you loved me You swore That you loved me And I believed...Now I know it was a lie..." - I Don't Believe, Track 1"It's so wrong that I need you It's so wrong that I need abuse It's so wrong that I need you So wrong that I'm scared I'll die alone" - So Wrong, Track 7So if you missed the 90s and wonder what happened, Wither, Blister, Burn + Peel is an album I highly recommend (unless you're afraid of rock'n'roll )--Torch

  2. Takeshi Kovacs says Boozey and I both felt that way about this band. It's like you lived a portion of your life not knowing what you are missing then seeing the gaping hole in retrospect. It's like never having seen National Lampoon's Animal House ever. I forgot about this one.

  5. Torch says What do I have to do? - To make you happy? What do I have to do? - To make you understand? What do I have to do? - To make you love me? And if I can't make you love me, Just tell me What do I have to do....? To forget about you...

  6. chucky says I just checked itunes - you are right. I know both of those. Weird, I liked both of them I wonder why I didn't buy those albums. I will assume that I was really, really poor.

  8. lemontwist says Yeah, I sort of dig Stabbing Westward. They're not my favorites, but I have all of Wither, Blister, Burn and Peel in my iTunes. Save Yourself and What Do I Have To Do are fantastic songs. They remind me of being in middle school and blasting my angry music real loud to try to compensate for being angry at life for making me a loser. Oh yeah, and because I was a badass punk... :)
