Eve 6's self-titled debut album grabs you from the first second, shakes you around, and doesn't want to let you go even after it is finished. The song you’ve heard is Track 2 – “Inside Out” –"I would swallow my pride I would choke on the rhines But the lack thereof would leave me empty inside I would swallow my doubt Turn it inside out Find nothing but faith in nothingWant to put my tender heart it in a blender Watch it spin round to a beautiful oblivion Rendezvous then I'm through with you"In retrospect its quite surprising that the band climbed as high as it did off the one single. Not surprising because that single wasn't good, but surprising because the rest of the album is excellent.Again, this is another lyrical witicism band for me. While Eve 6 is a band that was signed right out of high school, they're no idiots. Many of the songs contain subtle plays on words or games with the English language that are almost
too smart for your average pop-rock band:"Feel the cool air cleanse my every pore, as I pour my poor heart out” – from
Open Road Song, Track 5"Laced with thick naivetè, firm delusions can't be swayed" - from
Saturday Night, Track 9But its not just the creative lyrics -
Eve 6 isn't your classic power-chord, palm-muted, punk-pop album. The music is fresh and varying from one track to the next. The highs get you dancing in the car and lows are more like mild doldrums building to a climax. While
Inside Out was the radio hit, this is not a one song album. Many of the tracks possess that "hit me where I'm at" quality that leads to becoming your favorite. Personally - I'm a huge fan of both
Open Road Song and
Superhero Girl."Your erotic, wet atomic eyes keep reoccurring in my mind. Do me a favor please and touch your lips to mine..." - from
Superhero Girl, Track 7--Torch
