WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Two Hoots

Posted about 1 year ago

Since I moved from Southern california to Austin in 1993, I don't think I can recall a local band that has provided a more seamless musical transition for me than the rockabilly, blues, cajun, country, punk stylings of Rick Broussard. Two Hoots and a Holler sort of helped ease me into the very different music climate offered here in the lone star state. Rick is the real deal. Ask Social Distortion's Mike Ness. Or maybe our own Jesse Dayton. Some folks in England believe him to be the bastard brother of Joe Strummer for CHrist's sake!

I got to know Rick straight off the boat (at least he was one of the first people I knew in Austin) and he was so excited that I was from California. He kept asking me about the Dils and the Plugz at this party I went to my first summer in town.

I recall seeing a few 2 hoot's sets where things may have not gone the way Rick wanted and he just took off out the door of the club, into the icey street and didn't come back for 20 minutes. He seemed to frighten a few of my new found Austin friends. I realize now that it's because Rick Broussard is the REAL DEAL. 100% Wild American. A little Jerry Lee Lewis and a little Joe Strummer. Throw in some great songwriting and you've got Rick.

I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with him more than a few times and it is always a blast! I consider Two Hoots and a Holler a true Texas treasure and you should all check out Rick's music.

Good to know that Rick's still going strong. I saw Two Hoots And A Holler on my very first trip to Austin back in 1988, playing a little place on Sixth Street called Joe's Generic Bar.
