A couple of years ago I was living in Austin with my friend Mark Deutrom. One winter's day we decided to make a road trip up to Memphis to visit our good friend Piper. We got there and her roomate was dating William Eggleston, yes, that William Eggleston, the world famous photographer. He came over and we talked and Mark even took pictures of him which didn't seem to bug him. He was a bit under the weather. But really, that IS another story. Anyhoo, it was COLD and Dark because the other roomate hadn't paid the electricity bill. So William and his "roomate" took off for his house while we were left to crash out in the cold and deal with the problem the next morning. So anyway, Piper is the daughter of Black Oak lead singer, Jim Dandy. Jim's the coolest! He's always been real nice to me everytime we've met. Piper called him and he gave us some money for wine and candles. He offered to spring for a hotel but we opted for the former and he even came over later with his guitar and a doob. He showed me a couple of cool chords on it and we had a great time.So Mark said as we left for home the next morning:"With Piper, it really IS Jim Dandy to the rescue!"
