Ahh, this band, "Earth". I was in a very Melvins mood the other day and was yearning for something even drudgier sludgier and drone-ier? I thought of Sunn o))). I then thought: "Sunn... like The Sun. Sun and...EARTH!!!" I haven't listened to them for a very very very long time. To start, they have very very very long songs. Not just long, but sloooow. The drummer must have some discipline. Thai Chi discipline.
Anyway, I hop online and find their latest record: "The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull".
This is a different Earth than the one I remember. You know what? I like it even more.
This is the music of unmade movies.
This is the 21st century spaghetti western.
Grander and bigger skies than Calexico.
More foreboding than Mark Lanegan.
Completely instrumental.
I want to be a member of this band.
Put the headphones on and tremolo yourself to sleep.
It's more than spaghetti western. It is truly evocative stuff. Miami Morning Coming Down, as with the rest of the record, has a deceptively simple melody, but the spaciousness and layered quality to the instruments gives it perfect majesty. The relationship of guitar to piano(i!) and hammond is wonderful. No instrument gets in the way of the others.
Indulge yourself in some delicious.
Makes maximum deep happy.
No vocals.
No problem.
I'm off to work, but first, start your day off right with some noisy ass Devo

Just got a disc by a band called Antelope. One of them there Dischord bands. Not too shabby. Really simple crystal cut song to slowly turn in the light. They're good little prisms, sometimes puzzle boxes, and sometimes streetcorner newspaper shouters. I'll just show you a touch of the prismatic.
