BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

I just saw, "be here to love me" the Townes Van Zandt documentary. If I have ever been more depressed by a film in my life, I can't think of it.

I can only hope you didn't have to watch it by yourself. Musicians should have to watch it with a buddy.

Country? Depressing? No, can't be...

(Disclaimer: Yes, I'm using "country" in the broadest sense, so don't go all genre-hyphen on me.)

Actually, the thought of seeing that would frighten me. Don't know if I could make it through "Tower Song" after that.

If you don't know it, you should take a listen to TVZ's posthoumous record ABNORMAL. I THINK it is recordings from his last European tour. It is haunting, yet with some very funny moments. I have not seen the film, but perhaps this record is not so depressing. Ever hear OUR MOTHER THE MOUNTAIN? A truly fantastic record.

blair--townes lived Leaving Las Vegas. he took the longer self destruct path.

i found the interviews with both his older son and younger son fucking depressing. how is younger son talks about how he has to listen to his stuff to fall asleep.

I was flipping through channels and it was already on the sundance channel and i didn't even know who it was about and i got sucked in. i had vaguely heard of the name but had no real connections. i had to run out and get some of his stuff afterwards.

if you are looking for more of an upper about an alcoholic artist i recommend BORN INTO THIS the documentary of charles bukowski. it was lovely how things came together for him at the end.

how about a double feature of THE DEVIL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON and BE HERE TO LOVE ME?

Try the Heartworn Highways film it maybe a better angle on him and excellent footage of a young Steve Earle too. I saw Townes twice - once at a half empty Islington boozer where half audience talked through him - tragic...

try my wee radio podcast here
