I saw Deerhoof and The Fiery Furnaces last Wednesday at Lupo's. Really should have been at The Living Room or AS220; Lupo's was way too big, there was hardly anyone in the crowd, and it was tough to see the stage, whereas at The Living Room, you can see the band performing no matter where you are standing and how populated the show is. I've really only been to AS220 shows when they are outside on Empire Street (i.e. Lightning Bolt at the AS220 20th Birthday Party, Mahi Mahi at the AS220 21st Birthday Party), so I can't comment on that venue. I do know Deerhoof has played at AS220 before, and heard it was a wonderful show.
I only went to see Deerhoof, and I got a really good show from them. Satomi is a hilarious performer, doing line-dancing kicks and funky hand motions and what not. Saunier is an awesome drummer, even when he breaks five-million sticks and plays a broken hi-hat.
And all the Fiery Furnaces had going for them was that Eleanor Friedberger is a total babe.
