This is a post from my Myspace blog. Which I may parallel from time to time. I know this LP has it's share of mentions in the MOGosphere. (Just needed to note that!)

"Everyone has their "spring collection" when it comes to music. Some like the pop punk because of the energy in the air, some like more folksy things that merge with nature's born again frolic. I prefer Blossom Dearie. Her voice and demeanor invoke the nostalgia of a past lost and the twitter in the heart that comes with the anticipation of new found love. It becomes a unison with the birds spring song and the thrum of the breeze against the window screen... She also sings about spring. In fact I can think of at least four songs from her catalog with "spring" in the title... She obviously likens it to herself as well.
But it's a mystery. Why doesn't everyone know about this living legend? I sometimes listen to local radio with the anticipation of her presence... Where is she? I remember requesting her from The Current after hearing a Chet Baker tune only to get the response : "Who?" I mean, let's not forget her wispy monophonic tones traveling from our console TV on a Saturday morning singing: "Figure eight. Is double four. And four. Is half of eight... If you skate. It would be great. If you could make. A figure eight..." from the famous "Schoolhouse Rock" series... Yes, that's the voice. The one you love.
It's impossible to catalog her entire career here. Or all the incredible artists she has worked with. So I will refer you to her website below. But I must recommend my favorite recording as my album of the month.
That's just the way I want to be is considered a bit of a departure for Blossom. She relocated in London at the end of the 60's and was influenced greatly by the environment. At least enough to record this masterpiece. Unfortunately, it's only been available as a Japanese import (there again why?) and it's worth every penny. But I would suggest any of her recordings to the willing and open-hearted...
Here is a sample from the LP. A song penned by a St. Paul native and legend himself Dave Frishberg, and one of my favorite songs about money ever... "Long Daddy Green" Enjoy!"

You're in good company here. Blossom gets a pretty big slice of Moglove. Dermahrk has recently posted about her and I've put her on a few CD mixes for fellow MOGgers, just as Fistula Spume did for me. (In fact, "Long Daddy Green" was one of the songs he chose.) I especially love her first album, "Blossom Dearie."

This is what is great about MOG. Ivylander was turned on to her by another MOGger, turned me on to her with a mix CD, and now I'm a fan. I need more Blossom, so I will have to start looking at her CDs. I may follow IL's lead and go for that first album. Thanks for the tune and the post!

I never heard that album before & it sure sounds great. a couple of years ago I got me the originals for "give him the ooh-la-la" (1958) & "once upon a summertime" (1958), after a friend passed me a cd compilation. She is very unique. Great post all the way.

Hello there, I actually was googling Blossom today and came upon your page and then joined just to leave you a comment! Yes! I have no idea she is not more respected especially since you do hear her in the occasional soundtrack and furthermore so many of our vcal greats aren't performing anymore. Why isn't she more well-known! ;) I even turned a theater riend in NYC on to her!
My page is still pretty blank, pardon me, but hope to hear from you any way!
Yours, ASF
