The Greatest Tour in the History of Rock

Posted over 2 years ago
In the spring of 1966, Dylan undertook a "world tour" of Australia and Europe . Each show was split into two parts. Dylan performed solo during the first half, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar and harmonica. In the second half, backed by the Hawks, he played high voltage electric music. This is probably the greatest tour in the history of Rock.A whole bunch of excellent soundboard Dylan recordings have appeared at the fantastic "Skafunkrastapunk forum":http://skafunkrastapunk.com/forum/search.php?search_author=bobdylan_Like A Rolling Stone_ Newcastle, UK - May 21, 1966_Ballad of A Thin Man_ Sydney Stadium, Sydney, Australia - April 13, 1966

  1. deadmandeadman says Yes. People forget that Bob and The Band took the rock n roll world by the neck and shook it like a ragdoll. The Band was playing some of the most articulate and intricate music on the planet. Garth Hudson's keyboards provided incredible sounds and tones, Robbie was lighting it up with riffs you could open tin cans with. Rick Danko has to be one of the most underappreciated bassists in rock. Each night this band would ignite storms of sounds which were as intelligent as they were loud. NO other band performing at the time could come close. Oh yes "while the king was looking down the jester stole his thorny crown." Dig out any LIVE recording from any rock n roll band from 1966. Its not even a contest.

  3. wassonii says Truth. None has been so divisive, nor eye-opening, nor has there been a better benchmark. May not always need all of Dylan's ouvre, but damn he and the Band set the world on fire! Good stuff!
