Rhett Miller - "I Need To Know Where I Stand" (2009)

Posted about 3 years ago

It's cool to see that Rhett Miller is releasing his fourth album this summer. It's on the Shout! Factory label too. It's great that an artist of Rhett's talent can go back and forth between his solo albums and his work with the band Old 97's (seven studio albums up to date since the mid 90's). If you're a fan of "30 Rock" on NBC, you might have seen Rhett standing next to Rachael Yamagata as they harmonized with Moby around a microphone for the show's all star musical telethon satire "Kidney Now!" on the season finale last week. This song "I Need To Know Where I Stand" is currently getting heavy airplay on our airwaves here on Maui. Enjoy.

I've enjoyed all his solo discs, and I'm sure that from this sample, his 4th will be just as good. Thanks for this.

Always been a big fan of Rhett's (is this his 4th solo album - I'm missing one of them???)  Great songwriter and performing.  Really hoping this one is just as good.

Didn't even catch him on 30 Rock, although I was really trying to name drop everyone I recognized...

I own a bunch of Old 97s/Rhett but this sounds like an essential addition.

Did Jon Brion produce this one?

When the 30 Rock DVD comes out, I'll look for him!

The 30 rock full episode called Kidney Now! is online at NBC. Here's the link.

I think Mythologies from 1994 is the first solo album most of us don't have.

I'll have to look into picking that up.  Sounds like that's when he was still in full swing w/ the Old 97's...or perhaps prior even?

If you end up watching the link on Hulu of "30 Rock" from the link above supplied by MusixRX, you'll will find Rhett Miller (along with Moby and Rachael Yamagata) at the 18:26 mark of the video, immediately following Norah Jones and Sara Bareilles.

Ah - Norah Jones, that's one of those empty faces I couldn't figure out and Sara Bareilles is from Tegan and Sara I presume?

No.  Sara Bareilles is not from Tegan and Sara.  Tegan and Sara Quin are identical sisters.  Sara Bareilles put out an album a couple of years ago that had two radio hits and one of those was a massive worldwide hit titled "Love Song".  Check out the video link to see if the song rings a bell for you:
