MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Artist:
Album:

I'm pretty sure there is no song on here I don't like. It's a fun album and I'd argue that these guys are just getting started. Or maybe that's just what I'd like to think.

My favourite track is Crabe, for its wonderful dynamics and pure energy. Of course I still can't get Montreal -40 out of my head, and it's a tasty song to get the album moving after opening with an easy little 58 second bit sounding more like something on their first album. But this a different approach than their debut, something that is on the tip of your tounge rather than taking its time sinking into your head. Expect some BEATZ yall. Very catchy rhythms; Casse-Cou even features a Reggae breakdown as the song progresses from its heavy, plodding opening act to a triumphant conclusion. Russe will briefly demonstrate the finest rapping I've heard from a French-Canadian Indie-Rock band in a while, and Fille A Plume delivers some uhn-tiss uhn-tiss action. Go listen to Compte Complet if this disagrees with you.

http://www.bonsound.com/videoclips/Malajube_Montreal-40.mov by the way, if you want to download that video. Which you should do. As a film and animation student I now watch this video constantly. Even in my sleep. There is also a video with ZOMBIES you can look for on their .com or the ole youtube.

All in all, you will be in a good mood if you rock out to this album. Any song on the album can stand on its own, but they also stand together in a well-aranged manner. Crabe builds into Monogamie which continues gathering gravitas, relieved by the bouncy possibly bubblegummy Ton Plat Flavori. On the heels of Casse-Cou comes the ballad Etienne D'Ao followed by the thoughtful (dare i say RADIOHEAD-ish?) St Fortunat and these tracks begin to bring the album back down to its close. The final track is a minute-long intstrumental reprise of St Fortunat logically titled Fin to let you know it's over. And so I end my debut MOG blog by saying

FIN. and have a nice day.
