We awoke at the crack of dawn and burned down 8 hours on the road with one goal in mind -- to worship in the closest thing The Teenage Prayers have to a church.
That’s right. The Stax/Volt museum in Memphis TN.
Amazingly, and this is why Memphis is one of the coolest places on earth, as we made our way through the museum, i noticed a mild-mannered looking gent taking a group through on something like a guided tour. after lurking around them and hearing some of the amazing stories about Stax and Memphis music, i finally figured out who it was: oh, only John Fry, the guy who STARTED ARDENT RECORDS. jesus god.
what else. oh, we ran into our friends from NYC, The Big Sleep, as they too wandered downtown Memphis. Everybody’s converging on Austin. i expect there will be a long line of band vans clogging all the roads.
you should also check out schatz’s blog for amazing photos of our journey (which he hasn’t uploaded yet but will, check back for updates): http://www.sxswhat.blogspot.com/
anyway, here’s the video blog. they didn’t let us take cameras into the museum so this is what we got:

Hey Guys - This is Tim Sampson from the Stax Museum. Thanks for the great blog post. John Fry is a super cool guy and I was with him yesterday. If you're ever back in Memphis and want him to give you a tour of Ardent (which is GREAT), just give him a call there. He loves to show people the place.
Have fun in Austin........ Tim
