Be itbemoaning lost love or castigating straying partners, acoustic guitarsseem to be made especially for the broken hearted. And whilst EmilyJane White departs from many troubadour traditions in her debut album, this songwriting fare is a steady staple. Indeed the whole album reeksof an overwhelming sense of isolation, a loneliness I'd imagine isfound only in the abandoned bars of the Mid West."More...http://mog.com/Joxley/blog_post/136530Artist: Peanut Butter Wolf Album: Y28 Szanujzielen: "From the opening track,Madlib's 'See (Suite),' it was apparent what I had — the newest member of my Saturday afternoon collection. Beats enough to clean my way from the kitchen sink all the way past my living room couch. The late J Dilla's 'Lightworking (featuring Q-Tip and Talib Kweli)' powered me through the laundry with verse after verse of the nice flow."More...http://mog.com/szanujzielen/blog_post/136103Artist: Led Zeppelin Album: Mothership John Madden: "The release of Led Zeppelin's Mothership, the latest compilation to celebrate the career ofthe legendary foursome, comes on the heels of the much touted and sincelauded Ahmet Ertegün Tribute concert in London's O2 Arena on December 10th last, and is accompanied by a much quieter re-release of legendary concert film The Song Remains The Same. Entirely coincidentally, Stephen Davis' derided-as-inaccurate but enormously entertaining tell-all Hammer Of The Gods was also re-released last April."More...http://mog.com/John_Madden/blog_post/135757Artist: Mary J. Blige Album: Growing PainsBrittanybf: "Two years after The Breakthrough, Mary J. Blige isback. This time the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has arrived to reassert herwomanhood, with an album centered around female empowerment and the ups and downs of her relationships. Such are the usual ingredients of Ms. Blige's albums, but whereas 2005's The Breakthrough marked the initial celebration of putting her troubled past behind her, with 2007's Growing Pains Mary comes across as an assured, groundedand proud woman. It's no wonder Growing Pains hit #1 on theBillboard charts during its second week of release."More...http://mog.com/brittanybf/blog_post/135587Artist: Lucky Soul Album: TheGreat UnwantedJoxley: "There seems to be two types of band in Britain at the moment:those who shop at Topman before brewing up potent lad-rock in their bedrooms, and those who raid the vintage stores, then return home to their lavishly decorated flat to work on their latest 60's influenced pop-tune. Greenwhich's Lucky Soul fit into the latter category, right between Pipettes and The Long Blondes."More...http://mog.com/Joxley/blog_post/136020Moggers' "Best Of '07" ListsAnna:http://mog.com/Anna/blog_post/133602Dachmo:http://mog.com/dachmo/blog_post/133666FluxCapacitor:http://mog.com/FluxCapacitor/blog_post/133221Michael Goldberg:http://mog.com/Michael_Goldberg/blog_post/132892GoodMusicOnly:http://mog.com/goodmusiconly/blog_post/135067Brendan Halpin:http://mog.com/brendanhalpin/blog_post/134637David Hymanhttp://mog.com/david_hyman/blog_post/133929Joxley:http://mog.com/Joxley/blog_post/133737Neill:http://mog.com/Neill/blog_post/134123Spencer Owen:http://mog.com/Spencer_Owen/blog_post/135731Sageturk:http://mog.com/sageturk/blog_post/132438Mogger Of The WeekSay hello to Goodmusiconly!http://mog.com/goodmusiconlyNo matter if you call her Goodmusiconly, Goodmusic Erin, or just GMO, one thing is certain: this gal from Colorado is a music aficionado! Erin has been Mogging with us for a little more than a year and is an active member of the MOG community.Goodmusiconly explains how she first found MOG:"I stumbled into MOG after clicking on a link in an article about Nada Surf that dropped me onto Matthew Caws's MOG page. I soon realized the site was filled with a mother lode of like-minded music obsessors; I signed up within the hour and haven't looked back. I own my own graphic design business which affords me the flexibility to procrastinate asnecessary to fill my unending need for aural goodness."Music and art have been central themes in my life for as long as I can remember. My father raised me on a heavy diet of classical music as I was growing up, and I still adore classical piano, violin and cello, as well as jazz, cuban music, a bit of folk, and classics like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix. As a teen I fell head over heels for New Order's 'Your Silent Face,' after which I plunged headlong into new wave, punk, post-punk, shoegaze (though I'm officially considered ashoegeezer now), garage rock, and all different kinds of indie."Goodmusic Erin doesn't just have one all-time favorite album. "I don't think I could ever pick one favorite album of all time without feeling brain damaged; there are so many I love for different reasons, in a variety of genres from different times and places in my life," she says. "But if I had to name a few that are near and dear to me they wouldinclude Elliott Smith's XO, The Clash's London Calling, Nick Cave's No More Shall We Part, and Billy Bragg's Workers Playtime. Others on the list include The Chameleons, The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, New Order, Joy Division, and Sonic Youth."I have made some great musical discoveries here and filled my externalhard drive to bursting, thanks to some trustworthy Moggers ... The National, Papercuts (Jenny), Richard Swift (Shayna), The Twilight Sad(Michael Dustdevil), Autokat (Dale), Pajo (Amy Honey), David Kilgour (Jenny), The Thermals (Blair), Blonde Redhead, Fruit Bats, Pela, The Black Angels, Loney, Dear, the list goes on and on.... And to boot, had the opportunity to lose even more of my hearing at live shows whilestanding side-by-side with fellow mogs. I'm so thankful for all the top-notch people I've e-met here over the past year."Some fun facts about Goodmusiconly:-- She's a Tour de France fanatic.-- She is teaching herself to play bass guitar. Erin figures, "I have agood 35-40 years before my teeth fall out and I need to play shows for myfriends from the comfort of my posturepedic bed."-- "I used to be able to roll myself into a backwards ball and rest mychin on the floor between my feet, do a hundred back handspringsback-to-back, and do a back flip on a balance beam."-- She's married to a former rock and roll drummer whose band was once under consideration for a major label contract. They lost out to a little group you all might know as The Smashing Pumpkins. They ultimately disbanded, but it all worked out in the end; "now thereare two little girls running around who are receiving a proper rock education by their EMCD-ing mother."Be sure to stop by and say hi to Goodmusiconly!Word Of MogJosh Haden's "Haden Family" Recording Sessions JournalJosh Haden: "I'm in Nashville right now recording the Haden Family cdand I'll be blogging about it every day... First a little history. TheHaden Family were a country-gospel singing group that played in the1930s-1950s all over the mid-west United States. They could be heard ongospel radio stations in Iowa, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, revivalmeetings and county fairs in Missouri. They were friends with many other country artists of their day including the Carter Family. My father, Charlie Haden, was born on Aug. 6, 1937, and soon afterwards joined the act as Yodeling Cowboy Charlie, travelling and singing with his family until the age of 15..."more...http://mog.com/Josh_Haden/blog_post/135885Video Interview With Blixa Bargeld Of Einsturzende Neubauten! Molli: "I was delighted when MOG asked me to come down to the HQ to film an interview with Blixa Bargeld. Bargeld is in California briefly, doing limited promotion for the new release from his band Einstürzende Neubauten as well as a few live performances. If you haven't heard of Einstürzende Neubauten, I'd bet you are under the age of 25, becausethe name was a household word in /any/ music circle until about 6 yearsago. Neubauten was HUGE when I was in my teens and twenties and influenced many eclectic bands that are popular in the fringes today (Mike Patton, Tomahawk, Liars, Depeche Mode, Henry Rollins, Blue Man Group and The Locust to name a few). But in recent years, Neubauten seemed reclusive. I, myself, only recently learned that they haven't stopped producing music or performing it ive..."More...http://mog.com/mollifire/blog_post/135573Hurry! But in yet another case of sloppy research, Keith Richards gets the credit for throwing a TV off the balcony."More...http://mog.com/Jonh_Ingham/blog_post/13566314 Things To Learn From The Floundering Music IndustryDavesonic: "(The first and most important thing to learn) The new thingis never as good as the old thing, at least right now.Soon, the new thing will be better than the old thing will be. But if you wait until then, it's going to be too late. Feel free to wax nostalgic about the old thing, but don't fool yourself into believing it's going to be here forever. It won't."More...http://mog.com/davesonic/blog_post/136264Mogger Miffed By The Taco Bell And Joe Jackson CollaborationAlex In NYC: "In 2008, it's a bit late in the day to get upset about the utilization of pop songs in advertising, but a little part of my heart imploded last night when I saw a Taco Bell commercial that used 'One More Time' by Joe Jackson (off the absolutely essential /Look Sharp!/album). I know Joe hasn't had a big hit in a while, but does he really need the cash that bad?"More..http://mog.com/Alex_in_NYC/blog_post/135741Nostalgia Ain't What It Used To BeMikeTheKnife: "In all honesty, I've gotta say that the last truly fresh, unique sounds I encountered were probably from the new-wave/proto-rapera, when groups were first exploring what could be done with synthesizers/sequencers/beat boxes. I no longer listen to tracks, mouth agape, stunned at hearing a combo of style, vocals, instrumentation and lyrics that neither I nor anyone else had ever imagined before."More...http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/134935Mogger "I Am" Announces His (Possible) Run For President!I am: "I say possible cause I don't know if the election boards will accept my application.
