Some of these artists catch on and experience worldwide success (Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco), and others fail to gain a massive following (Little Brother). In 2007 the group to fill this coveted spot was none other than The Cool Kids, who manage to fuse the old school stripped down beats with new aged swagger and style."More...http://mog.com/MrFrost/blog_post/134222Artist: Shocking Pinks Album: Shocking PinksJoxley:"There are certain things we have come to expect from ouralbums: a coalescence of tracks perhaps, some continuing strands that develop from song to song, maybe even some sort of grandiose "concept". However no-one seems to have told New Zealander Nick Harte this."More...http://mog.com/Joxley/blog_post/133453Artist: The Rubinoos Album: The RubinoosRedtunictroll:"Like so many bands that swim against the trend-of-the-moment, the ultra sweet harmonies of the Rubinoos late 70s power-pop never achieved the wide-spread contemporary acclaim it deserved. Released against the background of the era's hard rock, the Rubinoos ended up more popular with the teenage fans of Tiger Beat than the more sophisticated fans of Big Star or the Raspberries."More...http://mog.com/redtunictroll/blog_post/133254Artist: Daft Punk Album: Alive 2007Fluxcapacitor:"Let this serve as a warning, gentle reader. A recordexec acquaintance passed me a copy of Daft Punk's previous album Human After All about three months before its official release. When friends visited the flat I would casually slip on the CD. I imagined they would exclaim "Wow, where did you get that?!". To which I would reply with a knowing wink, "I'm not at liberty to divulge that information.""More...http://mog.com/FluxCapacitor/blog_post/132287Artist: Levon Helm Album: Dirt FarmerBendanHalpin:"Levon Helm is probably best known to mostpeople as That Guy Who Played Loretta Lynn's Dad in Coal Miner's Daughter. He's also, of course, well known as the drummer and occasional (and best) singer for the legendary, if unfortunately named The Band, who backed Dylan, released their own records, and co-starred in the legendary Neil Diamond concert movie The Last Waltz. (I'm kidding. It's their movie. But Neil Diamond really is in it, with fabulous hair and shades.)"More...http://mog.com/brendanhalpin/blog_post/131992Mogger Of The WeekSay hello to Neill!http://mog.com/NeillNeill is a music fanatic from London and has been Mogging with us for a little more than a year. Neill first heard of Mog from the Magazine "Computer Active". Chances are, you've probably stopped by his page once or twice and checked out one of the many awesome YouTube Videos he's posted for our viewing pleasures.Neill is a die hard Joy Division fan. Their album, "Closer" he considers his favorite of all time. Although, Neill explains he has found a wealth of new music on Mog which are becoming some of his new favorites; "Snowdon, CSS, Ratatat, Metric, Battles, and bands I knew about and didn't think much of, but then had my arm twisted by trusted Moggers; Muse, Mew, Archive & Long Blondes.""There is also quite a buzz when you post a new band and other Moggers get really excited about them, such as The Whip or Autokat," he added. "Everyone has their favorite radio station and music magazines but they are so 'hit' and 'miss' when it comes to finding new music. Once you have found your Trusted Moggers, 'Trust' being the main word, you will go and search out stuff they recommend to you; it's just so much more personal," Neill explains. "Music wise, I like trawling the hundreds of tiny (audience size; 1 man & his dog up to 600) pubs, bars and clubs in London to see new and up-coming bands where you can stand inches away from them.I've been lucky enough to see some fantastic bands in theseenvironments when they where on the way up; The Stone Roses, Oasis, Happy Mondays, Psychedelic Furs, Blur, The Verve, Pulp, Art Brut and Bloc Party to name but a few." In closing, Neill offers us a word of advice; "never get friendly with bands as they are nearly all obsessed with themselves, get friendly with the PR girls (they are nearly always girls) because they control the guest list's (I'm not a user & abuser, honest! LOL!)."Be sure to stop by and say hi to Neill!Word Of MogWhen Your City Is Full Of Rap, Hipster Scum, & Elvis Crap; What's a Girl To Do?Hex":Memphis is supposedly the birth place of rock n roll. Then explain to me why the music scene sucks so bad here. Yes, we do have a few good venues, where you can find rock and occassionally punk in it's purest forms. However, the majority of the city is lost in the "dirty south hustle and flow" rap scene, stuck in some sort of retro elvis/jesus worship, or hipster scum."More...http://mog.com/hex/blog_post/134547ROCK N' ROLL PIMP'S Top TenJoxley says: "They might not be cool, but they rawk for sure!"More... http://mog.com/ROCKNROLLPIMP/blog_post/133772What is your hair of the dog or favorite hangover music?Bartleby :"New Year's Eve and New Year in particular brings along the familiar callers: distant relatives whom you haven't heard in ages, the neighbours who forgot their keys and that most in-your-face friend: the Hangover. For me, it is yet another visitor whom I send for to sort out my friend with the plasterer's pocket: Jacques Offenbach."More...http://mog.com/Bartleby/blog_post/134085Nick Lowe speaks candidly to MOGTerry_Staunton:" "I didn't think anyone would be talking about this record come the end of 1978, let alone 2008," says Nick Lowe, of the 30th anniversary reissue of his debut solo album Jesus Of Cool, in the shops and on-line this coming February. Self-effacing as ever, he's still trying to find his feet after the blanket praise heaped on his 2007 release, At My Age, so the idea of his first forays into long-playing popdom still being worthy of discussion has left him bemused, to say the least."More...http://mog.com/Terry_Staunton/blog_post/134121Mike The Knife Shares New Year's PlansMikeTheKnife:" Tonight, the Big Odometer will click a digit higher, and we'll all creep forward to our respective destinies. Meanwhile, there's frolic and frivolity afoot across the globe. Me? I'll be hanging with some pals on the block; then I'll cruise over to a more elegant and freaky soiree (costumes encouraged!) in a slightly posher 'hood for the midnight revels. Finally, it's off to the Bootie New Year's bash at the ever-reliable DNA where I can groove to mash-ups par excellence into the wee hours."More...http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/133991What Were The 20 Tracks You Obsessed Over In 2007?Dale:" These are the songs that, at one point or another, got so stuck in my psyche that I would have to hear them over and over again. And since I have nothing better to do, I'll even give a mini-review or story, you know, explore the studio space. This list is unordered. In fact, I've put these songs in a playlist, and I'm shuffling, so I'll write about them as they come up."More...http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/134212Hank Williams Has Just Got To Grow On YouDermahrk: "After hearing about Hank Williams for years and years, I bought an LP sometime in the late 1970s featuring 18 or so of his greatest hits. It was not a hit with me - I could not adjust to the reedy voice, poor production and spare, stilted instrumentation. I made a cassette of the vinyl - and played it maybe twice. But over the last couple of years I received several Hank tracks on music magazine "free" samplers - and absolutely loved every one of them."More...http://mog.com/dermahrk/blog_post/133347The Beautiful People Of '07Darmuzz:" In which I reveal my extreme shallowness, er, aesthetic sensibility...here are my votes for the most beautiful, cool, crush-able and do-able people in the music world. I'm sure you'll tell me who I've forgotten!"More...http://mog.com/darmuzz/blog_post/134008From Japan, With LoveScotfree:"What a nice holiday treat. My fave Japanese songstress Yuki is back with a new single. She has, once again, directed herself into an intriguing quagmire featuring giant balloons, the ghost of Bluebeard (?) the pirate, junior American seafarers, and the proverbial wooden chair - in outlandish desert locale."More...http://mog.com/scotfree/blog_post/133279New Year's MoggesolutionsBloodtea:" 2007 was a hell of a year, that's a fact. So many memories flashing before my eyes... I don't even know if it's tears of joy I'm shedding right now. Oh well... First of all, I want to thank you all for this terrific year well spent on MOG - you had to make this so damn addictive, hadn't you? - oh... such a wonderful community."More...http://mog.com/bloodtea/blog_post/133801
