The way the energetic, primitively direct riff of opener 'Every Artist Needs a Tragedy' only kicks in two thirds of the way into a song hitherto meandering and awash with fluttering hi-hats, distant, filtered guitar ambience and what sounds like traffic noise."More...http://mog.com/cogwheeldogs/blog_post/130625Donald Fagen - "Nightfly Trilogy"Spencer Owen:" Donald Fagen spent a decade with writer's block, but before that happened, he crafted a personal postscript to the classic years of Steely Dan with 1982's The Nightfly. Here Fagen sidestepped the world created by him and his usual writing partner Walter Becker - male city-slickers with all their hang-ups and defenses - and called upon his childhood, his adolescence, and other things that inspire soft, romantic adult feelings."More...http://mog.com/Spencer_Owen/blog_post/129893Scarface - M.A.D.E.MrFrost:" That's the one word that immediately comes to mind when you hear the name "Scarface". He's your favorite rapper's favorite rapper, and the reigning godfather of southern hip hop music. Brad Jordan a.k.a. Scarface has the credibility and prowess every label-created cookie cutter emcee would kill for. He may not get the national exposure and video plays on MTV 's TRL , but if you know Scarface, you'd realize he could care less."More...http://mog.com/MrFrost/blog_post/129137Burial - "Untrue"Sageturk & Ethan E.: "ST: Alright, this week we've got Untrue, by Burial - the enigmatic London MC making waves with his homespun dubstep masterpieces.EE: Ooh yeah, i've heard of this guy...I heard no one's ever seen his face. Like the music producer gets a knock on the door and when he goes to open it, no one's there! But then when he turns around, there's the newest Burial cd sitting on the floor next to a single rose..."More...http://mog.com/sageturk/blog_post/129367Meneguar - Strangers in Our HouseJenny:" Strangers in Our House is an oddly upbeat, life-affirming albums about alienation and disaffection. Musically, it could hardly be more positive. Every shouted chorus punches its fist in the air. Every raggedy riff and machine gun drum fill zings with triumphant energy."More...http://mog.com/jenny/blog_post/129034Mogger Of The Weekhttp://mog.com/Terry_StauntonSay Hello to Terry Staunton! Terry is a writer and musician from London who has been Mogging with us for a little more than a year. Terry discovered Mog through a friend, he explains: "Mogger Barney Hoskyns alerted me to the site's delights".Mr. Staunton has a taste of soul to him, his favorite album of all time is "What's Goin' On" by Marvin Gaye. When asked what are some of his favorite artists he's discovered through Mog are he explains "[that's a] tricky one. As a music journalist, I kinda get to hear about things from various sources, but Mog has made me reconsider Bright Eyes and Death Cab For Cutie - although the Staunton jury is still out on both."-He once played rhythm guitar with The Blue Aeroplanes at a London gig.-Britpop wonders Dodgy "were my backing band when he played a gig on my 30th birthday."-Terry also performed Elvis Presley's Return To Sender at a karaoke party with Viv Stanshall of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.-He was a roadie for The Mekons for one afternoon, but was sacked after "I reversed the van over their food hamper."-"My favourite mode of transport is being carried by other people."-"Ricky Gervais once heckled me during a student quiz show he was hosting. His exact words were, 'I'm not a comedian, but I'm funnier than you.'"-He was the executive producer of a charity album for his former employer, the music mag NME, and he cajoled Boy George into covering My Sweet Lord, Marc Almond into covering Like A Prayer, Blur into covering Maggie May, and Suede into covering Brass In Pocket. "If you wanna know more, I may post something about the album (a 3-CD set) in the near future," he says. -He collects pyjama bottoms.-His favorite cheese is Munster, made by Irish monks in a French monastery.-He knows all the words to every Chuck Berry song. Not even Chuck Berry can claim that.-He has no tattoos or piercings, save for a bizarre lump in his right bicep, which he's convinced is an alien implant. "When I move said arm across a supermarket barcode scanner, I discover that I'm worth œ3.72," he explains.Stop by and Say hi to Terry Staunton!Word Of MOGThe New Mog Goes Live! David Hyman: "It brings us great pleasure to share with you the next generation in online music experiences. Welcome to the spankin' new MOG."More...http://mog.com/david_hyman/blog_post/130184"Hey Buddy, What Kind Of Music Do YOU Like"?Joxley:"Does anyone else dread this question? Picture this, I'm getting a lift from an acquaintance (and minor reality tv star, having my ears assault by overly-loud, awful hip-hop, when she turns round and asks. By now you all know that someone's taste in music says alot about people, it's probably one of your favourite questions to hurl at a new face, but how do you answer it?"More...http://mog.com/Joxley/blog_post/129879An Un-American Mogger Weighs In On The New MogFluxCapacitor:"I cannot receive the new Rhapsody features like an American. For I am Un-American. Today many Moggers compared this state of separation to the apartheid years in South Africa. Others, more considered thinkers, say it's much worse than that."More...http://mog.com/FluxCapacitor/blog_post/130489Where Do You Mog?Darmuzz:"I share my computer desk with my daughter. She deals with the cold cups of coffee I leave behind, and I deal with her cookie crumbs in the keyboard." More...http://mog.com/darmuzz/blog_post/129402Just Take A Deep Breath And Listen To Black FlagSommer Face:" Can anyone recommened me angry, f#^& you corporate america, f#^& you people music? This once happy girl is having the s#&! kicked out of her by horribly rude mean people."More...http://mog.com/sommer_face/blog_post/129850The Music Industry Is Collapsing Upon Itself!Howieklein:" New York's "Vulture" section comes to the correct conclusion about the music biz-- but for the wrong reason. In commenting on the Wired profile of "Universal Music Group CEO /supervillain Doug Morris," the folks at "Vulture" have a yuck-fest over Morris' inability to come to grips with modern technology."More...http://mog.com/howieklein/blog_post/129762Bringing In The New Mog Right!Dachmo:"With the death knell for the Old Mog (or Mog as we currently know it) about to be rung I suggest we take this weekend to fill the Mog vaults with as much cheesy music as possible. Since Mog's first outing we moggers have been prancing about in all our fancy duds, I think it's time we all cleared our closets and aired out our dirty laundry."More...http://mog.com/dachmo/blog_post/129485Another Mike The Knife Mash Up!Mike The Knife:" If anyone questions the value or validity of mash-ups, I have to laugh. True, I've been known to deride collage as the last refuge of the uncreative. But mash-ups, like canny collages, can make something quite original out of "found" materials. And that's beyond the sheer entertainment factor."More...http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/129134What Makes A Group New Wave?Lizziegreeneyes: "Take a look at the eyeliner, note the pining lyrics & vocals, check the chipped black nail lacquer... NOW try to tell me these lads aren't heavily influenced by the New Wave scene we all so dearly love? "More...http://mog.com/Lizziegreeneyes/blog_post/130388
