WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I love a good progression in maturity.

I just got the new Hybrid album. I kind of accidentally stupbled upon it since they keep such a low profile.I just love how Hybrid has matured in their sound since Wide Angle. Wide Angle was fantastic with their combination of trance, breakbead, and symphony. Morning Sci-Fi went rock with collabourationd from Peter Hook and Adam Taylor. And now they have gone for the Industrial sound. The beats are harder, and synth loops are more scatters and aloof.A key track is the track that Perry Ferrell does guest vocals on, "Dogstar". For those who don't know, Perry Ferrell has dabbled in many genras of music. From Janes Addictions (rock) to Porno For Pyros (goth dn'b). The album track "I Choose Noise" is nothing but noise, but more like a dedication to music and all of it's beauty. There are guitars, strigs, drums, and more."Falling Down" is a fun track that reminds me of the freshman Hybrid with Julee Cruise. This time the vocalist is Judie Tzuke, who as far as I can tell is an 80's pop backup singer. No backup vocals for her on this album."Hooligan Spirit" take a nice little spin off "Personal Jesus". Reach out and tough faith.John Graham preforms vocals on one of my favorite track, "Choke", and "Until Tomorrow". Choke sounds like a Nine Inch Nails tribute. Hard and slow beats are nothing that I can recall Hybrid doing. John Graham was in the band Tilt and has since then done several collaboutations with is own writing and vocals. YEAH!Kirsty Hawkshaw, the techno diva, guests on the last track of the album "Just For Today". She does her ususal humming and chanting to a break-beat and some synths, nothing too technical vocally.

  1. Spencer Owen says I'm just going to digress off this and say Julee Cruise's albums (music by Angelo Badalameni, lyrics by David Lynch) are truly fantastic. Back to topic (sort of): amusing, to me, that you mention someone who had a career in backup singing. This is a type of career I more or less never think about (as many of my favorite artists sing their own backup), but it is obviously essential. One pro backup singer I know about is Dolette McDonald, and I'm not sure why I remember her name over her partner's, but they both appeared with both Laurie Anderson and Talking Heads, and in fact they appeared in both of their concert films! (Home of the Brave and Stop Making Sense) ... sorry, I... sometimes need an outlet.
