Brazilian Bossa Nova

Artist:
I feel the need to open a space here to tell about this music genre that is prety well-known world-wide, indeed, for its richness in terms of lyrics, poetry, harmony, rhythm and much, much more. A style that expresses the culture and ideologies of the brazilian people and the history of their country. From the early 60's through late 80's Brazil was ruled by a dictatorial government. All types of art and expression - including radio, television, music, ect - was subject to heavy censorship. At this picture, Bossa Nova composers were brilliant in making ways of getting around censorship by writing lyrics of ambiguos interpretations, which would subtly shout against forced domination and express what was in people's minds.'Garota de Ipanema (The Girl From Ipanema)', by Tom Jobim is one of the most famous Bossa Nova songs.Listen to some of it:Chico Buarquehttp://www.myspace.com/chicobuarquedehollandaTom Jobimhttp://www.myspace.com/tomjobimCaetano Velosohttp://www.myspace.com/caetanovelosoElis Reginahttp://www.myspace.com/elisreginaVinicius de Moraeshttp://www.myspace.com/viniciusdemoralesJoao Gilbertohttp://www.myspace.com/joaogilbertofresnoThe photo: Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Vinicius de Moraes and Caetano Veloso respectively.
