Good Mod, Bad Mod

Posted over 4 years ago
Far be it from me to get Moggers to do my day job for me, but I've been asked by a UK magazine to compile Top Tens of the best and worst Mod bands of all time. The best list almost writes itself, and will include The Small Faces (see below), The Jam, The Action, several other goodies, but I'd be interested in who gets your vote, and who should feature in the second, perhaps more contentious list of shame.

  1. Dale says Sorry Terry, but I'm dangerously undereducated when it comes to mod, so I can only look forward to your lists.

  2. Jonh Ingham says Do The High Numbers qualify as Best Mod? :-D Were there even as many as 10 Mod bands? Bad would have to include The Purple Hearts and almost every other '77-78 era Mod band.

  4. ivylander says I have a vague recollection of hearing a Mod Revival group called the Merton Parkas, who were as ghastly as their name. On the other hand, one Mod Revival song I totally loved was the Chords' "Maybe Tomorrow."

  5. Redvers Gerund says The Creation! And Geno Washington - not himself a mod but an honourary face I'd say.

  7. Mike the Knife says No question that the Small Faces were the quintessential, crucial Mod band. And early Who would have to be noted. But where would groups like S.F.'s Flamin' Groovies or the Beau Brummels fit on the continuum? They were Yanks who aped Mod style and sound, but the Brummels' singles and much of the Groovies' discography still sound pretty damned good to me.
