Championed by Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and Elvis Costello, and here in the UK they found favour with those of us late 70s teenagers who were diggin' on Graham Parker, Flamin' Groovies, The Motors, The Records and Joe Jackson. So, yeah... from my corner of the playground, they've always been New Wave. Having said that, I've never been fond of labels for labels' sake.

Power pop, anyone? Labels, shmables. It's simply one of the greatest rock and roll songs EVER! (And there are a few others in their songbook that ain't too shabby...)
Terry Staunton says
Don't get me started on Power Pop, Mike... I'll be posting about Bram Tchaikovsky, The Pinkees, The Records and sundry others.
Where's that Jellyfish reunion, now that we really need it...?
Mike the Knife says
I'm ready and waiting for more. Meanwhile, Jellyfish maven Andy Sturmer is pretty busy being the superhero's best pal. (He wrote the awesome theme to the Teen Titans cartoon show, as winningly performed by Puffy Ami Yumi, and the latest version of the theme to the current iteration of Batman cartoons. If I could easily post the Teen Titans theme in this thread on the new improved MOG, I would.)

I love Cheap Trick, too, (is the photo enough evidence) and though "New Wave" or "Alternative" radio stations never really gave them much, if any, play they should have. Especially the early songs like Auf Wiedersehn and ELO Kiddies. They were punk rock songs just before punk rock broke out.
Anyway, if you want to call them Power Pop I guess that fits.
I have another song in that category you might like to check out: The Dwight Twilley Band's "I'm On Fire."

ok ok
cheap trick IS NOT NEW WAVE
you and or/1 million dollars will never change my mind on this one

i can't stand SUB GENRES at all!
Never heard them lumped in with New Wave acts before like Elvis Costello, Blondie or The Cars were but they were definately Power Pop AND ABOVE ALL - ROCK AND ROLL! Cheap Trick rules!
