Cool Voice Needed for the Hottest Day of the Year

Posted over 2 years ago
When your opening act is the Beatles, you've gotta be good. Elvis called him the greatest singer in the world, and Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees referred to him as the "Voice of God." It's perhaps because his label didn't market him as cleverly or because his looks weren't astronomical, his talent was underrated. But when the summer in Philadelphia starts getting unbearably stickily hot like it is today, I don't think there's anything more refreshing than the sound of Roy Orbison's voice, smooth as a breeze, to soak through you and cool you down. Here is a song I love to hear on the hottest days of the year. What do you listen to to cool you down?

  1. deadmandeadman says Very nicely done, mon ami. Yes Roy's voice can lift us and make us cry. Simultaneously as often as not. But he's not alone anymore. He's singing in an other place.

  2. Jonh Ingham says I just found a concert of Roy at London's Festival Hall in 1968 - He sounds amazing live. Roy was one of my faves growing up and still rocks my soul. Have you noticed how he hardly opens his mouth when he sings? To cool down I play African music and reggae...it's hot outside, right?

  3. Taylspin says Haha, yeah it's hot out! Good call on the Afriacn music and reggae - any particular bands or tracks that you enjoy? I have never noticed Roy's lips or seen him in concert but I will have to check that out. Interesting observation.
