Needlecast - Randomness

Posted almost 6 years ago
Cpunks,Trying to get my son to sleep, so I put on some old Portishead and it's got my thoughts buzzing. The CD is Portishead - Portishead and I'm wondering why it doesn't sound as good as the PNY live CD - not even close. Why? It's the same notes, the same musicians, same DJ, same rhythm, etc. What's missing? It's an emotional edge, an energy, a charge from the collection of electrical beings in the audience. I wish I knew what Beth G. was going through the day of the PNY show and whether all their shows were as good. Did anyone out there see Portishead live and were they as good as the PNY CD indicates they were/are?Also wondering if there are any other examples of such a profound difference between studio vibe and concert vibe caught on CD. (Allman Brothers, The Roots, and Santana dont' count).Tak

I was down on the floor mashed up against everyone and together we felt like one massive ameoba swaying together to the groovy beats, melodies and Beth's swooning voice. A modern Lady Day. Hope they/she makes more music soon. By the way, worth checking out Massive Attack when the come by. The origianl Briston sound.
