So here's another review.G and I and a couple of good friends went to see Fishbone as part of the Rock Off Concert Cruise Series on May 3. This concept for rock concerts is just amazing. See a great band in an intimate venue while taking a cruise looking at the New York Skyline and Statue of Liberty. With Fishbone, it beats the Circle Line anyday. The weather was perfect and we boarded the Tempest shortly before sunset. Maybe I am just too much of a New York chauvinist but I love seeing the sunset over New Jersey. The boat took a little while to get started but the views were amazing. They had food for sale and the bar made the time pass quickly. Shortly after leaving port. One friend and I were walking around the place and Angelo Moore was just sitting on the side working on something on his laptop and casually talking to fans as they came up to say hi and take photos. I was both impressed by his casualness and the level of respect the fans gave him. Nobody crowded him and he was given time to complete his work. Angelo has quite the presence moving around the audience and after he check things out, the band got started. Angelo and Norwood Fisher should be commended with consistently being able to put together an amazing band. Given the tight quarters, I wasn't always able to see every member of the band but they sounded amazing. The boat had a second floor balcony that was very close to the stage. This gave the mosh pit a literal meaning. Fans were climbing over the balcony walls and jumping into (onto) the pit at an astounding rate. From the moment they kicked into Unyielding Conditioning and Everyday Sunshine to the time they finished with songs from their new album the whole house was jumping. If the boat wasn't so big, I would have been worried that it would tip.The new songs worked well along side their old and everybody left with a smile. Of the new songs, Party with Saddam, Date Rape and Let Dem Ho's Fight seemed to move the audience the most. I don't think their playing U.G.L.Y. as we passed the Statue of Liberty was meant as a political statement. They were probably too busy playing to notice the view.Anyway, my words can not start to sum up the experience. See Fishbone and if you can see them on a cruise, even better.

  1. Rawkkiddoh says wow, to say I wish I were you would be an understatement. I am glad to see you liked some of their new stuff as well

  2. Cody B says Glad you had a good time. I should've been there, but the label (I work/ed for their distributor) did not invite me. A shame about the lack of support for their new record (in terms of sales), but you can just blame me, I work/ed for their distributor!

  3. TBoom says Cody, I had trouble finding the album at all. I had to order it from Amazon and just received it the day before the show. And I was agressively looking for the album.

  4. Cody B says See T, it's my fault;) Anyway the label was really wary and only wanted to ship 3,000 copies, so I can see where you might have had trouble finding it.

  6. CrashPryor says ...that's so booty that their label only wanted to move 3k units...I don't think the Bone's ever gotten the dap that they should...10-20 years from now they'll be like Love...the baddest band that nobody's ever heard of...I got to check them a year and change ago at this small beach club in Malibu and heard them play a lot of their early ska stuff too...I was taking notes and Angelo's mom came over and we chatted it up for the rest of the show...that was surreal (he looks just like her)...great band and glad to see another Bone-head up in this piece...
