Mother Earth never really got the chance they deserved here in the US. A superb band, well worth a listen for fans of acid jazz, Brian Auger, Traffic or the Faces.
Okay, another artist I've overlooked, this does have a Madeski, Martin and Wood feel to it, nice, didn't find a lot of info on them but there are several albums up on itunes and amazon, with very sparse reviews. Which do you recommend?
The two classic Mother Earth discs are "The People Tree" and "You Have Been Watching". "Stoned Woman" is also good, esp if you dig the MMW vibe.
People Tree is about to be reissued as a double CD with bonus tracks and outtakes, but existing copies are cheap at half.com and probably the best place to start.
There's also a 2 CD compilation called "Time of the Future" that is a decent best of and also includes some hard-to-find b-sides, including their superb instrumental "Climbing Fox".
As far as individual songs, the best ones are "Apple Green", "Get Along", "Find It", "Freethinker", "Compare Yourself", "Jesse" (a minor hit in the UK back in the early 90s), "Time of the Future", and "Take a Trip Down Brian Lane".
