So it's been ages since I last MOGged...I was lost in my dissertation proposal grind for awhile... and then before I knew it, the summer was here and I embarked upon my fieldwork excursion to Rwanda, where I lived for three months conducting research. There, my musical experience consisted of a lot of American mainstream (such as Nickleback, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Johnny Cash, of all things).I ...
First off, I feel as though I have to vent about my irritation with my internet. Something about our internet access prevents MOG from working on my computer, which keeps me from writing as often as I'd like (and especially, from commenting on most of your very thoughtful posts.) MOG doesn't recognize my password, so to log in each time, I have to do the "forgot password" and wait for the email...
Today, something terrible happened. I was driving to work, listening to one of my current favorite songs via the lovely CD player in my car... when the LCD screen read error after I changed lanes and the track skipped... then after recovering, there was that staticy noise that accompanies the death of the alternator.... but then, even more tragic, the CD player died. And it ate my Cold War Kids CD
Some songs you hear, and they feel like home. It's like someone took your life, and said "I'm going to write that." Whatever you're feeling, it's there in the song. Happy (Death Cab: Marching Bands, Photo Booth, Plans). Sad (Ryan Adams: Dear John, English Girls Approximately, La Cienega Just Smiled). Nostalgic (Get Up Kids: Amy, Ten Minutes, Mass Pike). The songs gets you. Other songs, rare son...
I might have mentioned that in addition to my already full plate of graduate school (or rather, working on my dissertation proposal, funding applications, two side research projects, and getting ready to go to Africa) and hanging out with my hubby and friends, I work two days a week at a book and music store. Silly me-- I went into work tonight with the remnants of a terrible hangover and not w...
I've known a couple of the guys from Birdmonster for a long time. I tell you this not to be like "hey, I"m so cool" (because let's be honest, we all know that's not true) but to explain a bit of my overexcitement in this post. Aside from the fact that I adore the band as legitimately wonderful people, I think their music great and they put on a really fun live show. When they are on-stage, it i...
Do any of you out there, and I'm sure there are more of you, have an obsessive personality? No no no, this is more than merely an addictive personality. This is about complete and utter obsession... it's more than addictive because I never go through withdrawals... no, I simply inundate myself with (whatever it is I'm obsessing over), so that it is impossible to go through withdrawals. To some,...
I can't believe it's been 11 days since I last mogged. Unbelievable. Unfortunately, I've been stuck in a bit of a rut. I have been listening mostly to older AFI and nothing else seems to be grabbing my attention. My best friend recommended Midlake, but it just didn't do it for me. I really liked a few songs on the album, but for the most part, I wasn't madly in love with it. some other friends re
My friend just shared this link (http://musicovery.com/) and it is pretty cool so far. It's like a jukebox that lets you pick mood, genre, decade, popularity... It's a nice change. So far, most of the music on my little track is more mainstream (Ben Harper, RHCP, Alanis, etc). I really like the idea of this website.
