MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Death Cab in concert, as always, made my heart smile. I mean really, one can't help grin like an idiot when hearing "Marching Bands of Manhattan," get all swoony with "I Will Follow You into the Dark," or bop around to "Photobooth." Good times. My husband called me snobby because I remarked something about wishing that all of the kids (and there were lots of wee ones there last night) would check out something besides Plans. I wasn't implying that it was a bad thing that the kids were introduced to Death Cab through Plans, but merely that I wished they'd take the time to delve into some of DC tasty catalogue. The only way to learn is to listen to more, right? Or am I really being too snobby?

I did get a bit teary when they played "What Sarah Said"-- it always gets me. But you know, I gotta tell you, this whole fad of waving cell phones in the air in faux lighter style really irks me. Is that a sign that I've aged out of concerts? Digital neon lights are not the same as sustaining minor burns from waving your lighter. I mean, it's a good sign that the kids don't have lighters, presumably because they aren't smoking, but seriously, don't wave your cell phone in the air... it's kind of silly.

i agree, cell phone shennanigans are not cool. they-are-not-cool. i was introduced to Death Cab through a friend who reccomended Transatlanticism when it first came out. I hated it? Weird, I know. Then I heard "Photobooth", got my first kiss as it was playing actually-- soon, I was hooked on the Photo Album and We Have the Facts. You aren't being snobby.

You know, when I love a band enough, I always wish that newcomers will check out the back catalogue. There's usually always hidden gems that aren't apparent from the surface. And when I get into a "new" band, I love going back and discovering their older records.

I find the cell phone thing to be more annoying when you're trying to watch a show but can't see anything because people are busy snapping really poor quality photos through their phone's camera. And the people who are talking on their phone during a concert, trying to shout louder than the music and disrupting it at the same time. I think that common courtesy is often forgotten these days, and that's a bigger shame than waving a backlit LCD screen or lighter around.

you saw them at the bren center, right? yeah i wasn't too thrilled about the venue either, but then tickets sold out by the time i had money, so it didn't matter. i think they added the terrace show last minute, cuz it wasn't posted on their tour dates before. i didn't think the terrace was the best venue for a death cab show either though. they were really good, like always, but the experience is soo much better in a smaller place. i got to see them at the fillmore and at the glasshouse a few years ago and it was totally amazing. i fell in love with them at the fillmore.

the wiltern's not bad either. i saw them there twice. the first time i was way up in the balcony, but the acoustics were really good so it was ok (unlike the terrace). the second time i was right in front and it was awesome.

I haven't witnessed the cellphone phenomenon yet, but it does seem hokey. As for wishing they'd check out back catalogues - it might be snobby, but it's completely justified all the same.
