WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Time for Change

Posted over 3 years ago
It's finals week... not that I have finals. I have some papers and some funding applications to finish up. From here on out, it's all about the big D. I know that change is coming. Very good change. But it's also a bit overwhelming. I wouldn't go as far to say scary, but there is the element of unknown. Plus it's the holidays, which brings out its own neuroses and anxiety. So I toss on a little Explosions because it's soothing, comforting, and somehow, it mirrors my mood. Not that my husband knows, since he thinks I hate Explosions. It's not that I hate them, but listening to them just any old time doesn't work for me. He likes listening to them while driving or cleaning or just hanging out, but it's too much for me. Their music is perfect for times like now, I would argue, rather than just whenever. What do you all think? What music works for you during a time of anticipatory change, when things are bit uncertain? Any suggestions? Does this even make sense?

  1. admorobo says When things are changing, I listen to a lot of Brian Eno. He seems to be able to capture that ambiguity of uncertainty. I highly recommend "Music For Airports". Also Sigur Ros captures something immense and incredibly cathartic. They seem to give sound to saddness, the sound of the world turning. Interestingly enough, I listen to Explosions In They Sky while I drive. Their albums feel like a journey from one place to another, physical and emotional. I can definitley understand listening in times of change.
