Requiem For A Dream...

Clint Mansell was the lead singer and guitarist of the British band, Pop Will Eat Itself. Mansell also broke into the world of film scoring when his friend, director, Darren Aronofsky, gave him the opportunity to score his debut film, Pi.I was never a huge PWEI fan, always found them a bit hit and miss, but the score for Darren Aranofsky's second release 'Requiem For A Dream' is mesmerising. It's quite possibly my favourite score. If you haven't seen the afore-mentioned film you may still recognize the music, as it was remixed for use on the Lord Of The Rings.Lux Aeterna - Clint Mansell (Requiem For A Dream trailer)Mansell has also provided the score for Aranofsky's latest release 'The Fountain', which I haven't seen yet. I'm interested in your thoughts on the movie and especially it's score.I apologise for the video cutting short but the links below will make up for that.Lux Aeterna (full 23 minute version)

  1. Dale says How anyone would consider using drugs after watching that, is beyond me. Bone-chilling.

  2. Sureshot says Agreed. I have a friend who is a community drugs & alcohol abuse counsellor who has sat his people down to watch this and Trainspotting as a deterent. Apparently even junkies flinch at specific scenes.

  3. LyricalRevolution says I love Jared Leto in 30 Seconds to Mars. As far as scores go, John Williams is great, although it does tend to sound the same after a while. Still iconic, though. As far as film soundtracks go, I love the the ones for My Summer of Love (although I think I already mentioned that somewhere) and Little Miss Sunshine. Also the soundtrack to The Departed. I've heard the Tenacious D and Marie Antoinette soundtracks are great as well. The movie scared the crap out of me. I love that.

  4. Sureshot says Devotchka who provide the majority of the Little Miss Sunshine soundtrack are great musicians. Been listening to them loads recently.

  5. LyricalRevolution says My friend told me about a group called the Danielsons who have a movie coming out about them, and that Sufjan Stevens has been made an honorary member of the family. Do you know anything about the band or the movie?

  6. Sureshot says I have an album by Danielson called Ships. I only know their music though. Know virtually nothing about the band.

  7. whencitiesfalll says Mesmerising is pretty much the perfect word to describe it..it's unreal. If you don't feel even a little differently after seeing this, something's wrong with you.

  8. SamTheButcher says PWEI's "This Is The Day, This Is The Hour, This Is This!" is such a tour-de-force of the late 80's/early 90's.... Amazing music. It's so interesting when people go on to do other things. I mean, I can hear Danny Elfman in his scores. I can't hear PWEI in those. :)

  9. Anna says Fountain is amazing, it melts you down & the score is brilliant. (there's some scif fi in it towards the end, just sayin', so that you won't be taken aback the bad away). And Aronofksy is a genius.
