I was just browsing the pages of 101cd.com looking for Christmas presents for my sister and family and was surprised to see Aimee Mann has an upcoming album release. What surprised me even more is it's an album of Christmas songs.
'One More Drifter In The Snow' releases on the 27th of November in the UK. I believe It released on Halloween in the US, anyone heard it? Read the review from 101 below if you haven't. It's an interesting project to say the least.
Review from 101cd.com Aimee Mann and Super Ego Records (licensed through V2) announce the release of One More Drifter In The Snow. Reflecting a wide range of emotional tones of the season, Aimee Mann explains that she wanted to create an album that “captures the spooky beauty and mystery that Christmas is.”
The album features a mixture of classics that every body knows sprinkled with a few originals. Produced by Paul Bryan, the album includes the original song “Calling On Mary” written by Aimee and Paul specifically for the occasion. Aimee also sings the original Michael Penn tune “Christmastime” and duets with Grant Lee Phillips on their new version of the Dr. Seuss’ children’s classic “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”
Producer Paul Bryan explains, “The CD definitely harkens back to the classic albums of the 40’s & 50’s but it’s not retro at all, it’s a soulful album influenced by the bar-setting albums of Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Peggy Lee.
