Advance previews for Jarvis Cocker's debut solo album have been mixed to say the least, but I'm here to tell you the thumbs down people are quite simply talking bollocks. Their thumbs are not worthy. The central theme of 'Jarvis' is the ex-Pulp frontman's disgust for modern day British society. A disgust a lot of us on this small island share but either don't have the voice to protest or just choose to ignore in favour of drowning ourselves in a bottomless trough of beer and alcopops."If you don't like it then leave/Or use your right to protest on the streets/Yeah use your right but don't expect to be heard" - Running The World.Jarvis is a musical soap opera full of colorful characters and observations. The stand-out's for me; 'Fat Children' - A two-fingered salute to the hoodie wearing Chav's that harrass our every day. 'Black Magic' a Phil Spector-ish production that oddly made me picture Jarvis vs Bowie in a lightsaber duel, and 'Don't Let Him Waste Your Time' - personal advice from Jarv to a female friend. You'd be fooled by thinking the most publicized track 'Running the World' isn't included, but it's actually been relegated to secret track status and doesn't appear until about 15 minutes after the last listed track fades out.Darren Spooner and 'Relaxed Muscle' are long gone, the wit and charm of Pulp-Jarv are evident, and the man is back on true form.Fat Children (Download) Black Magic (listen in browser)RUNNING THE WORLD VIDEO W/LYRICS
