Songs You Should Be Listening To
Posts
If at first you don't succeed try, try again. That seems to be Atlanta rapper SupaStishun's motto. "I started singing at first and wasn't really good at it so the next alternative was to rap," says the winner of Blackplanet.com 2007 Amplify Talent Search. BlackPlanet.com is part of the Community Connect Inc., a family of niche social networking sites that has more than 16 million members. Delivering his music to the masses was important to SupaStishun and something Blackplanet.com helped him achieve.
"I am trying to accomplish multiple things in the music. You have to satisfy yourself as an artist and a fan of yourself and you have to satisfy the public and what they want to hear. And you have to be able to evolve with what's going on in the music industry since its changing [every day]," he says.
This newfound success has not slowed SupaStishun down. He is currently finishing up his first album. "I am titling my album, The Grady Baby Album, [because] there [are] very few [native Atlantans]. I think Grady Hospital [was] the [birthplace for a lot of people]. No disrespect to people [who were born in hospitals other than] Grady. But that's the city hospital and whether you came from the 'hood or didn't have any money, they brought you there for free. That is the [tentative] name of the album right now." - His current single, "Lollipop," produced by Baybe Lolife, can be heard at www.blackplanet.com/supastishun. -adrienne gadling

SupaStishun, recently won BlackPlanet.com's 2007 Talent Search for his latest single, "Lalipop (I Want Candy)", making him the Emerging Artist of the Year. Linda Hobbs, of VIBE Magazine, agrees: "I was feeling SupaStishun's drippy southern flow... He rides the rock production well, and isn't afraid to be catchy like all the other southern emcees that's killing the clubs right now." Sickamore, the famous mixtape DJ and Director of A&R at Warner Music, one of the contest judges, told people to watch out for this "very marketable Southern artist". Supa has caught the attention of millions online through BlackPlanet, the social networking site. "I write about what I think people can relate too," says SupaStishun. "My music is an emotional roller coaster like a good book. I have content that will make you laugh, cry, and even make you angry." Only one winner is selected every year and 14,000 people on BlackPlanet.com chose him out of 500 other artists. The contest is sponsored by BlackPlanet.com, a mixed social network 16 million deep, as a result SupaStishun was featured in VIBE Magazine Jan. 2008 issue to help increase his publicity on a national level

I can definitely hear the Ludacris influence in your flow. You're bringin' the ATL style all the way. The beat's tight with the rock riff overlayed on it, and the tempo seems to be right where you feel comfortable rockin' the song. A head bangah! Keep posting those tracks, SupaStishun. Peace.
