Blake's Recent Reads

  • Suite Francaise, Irene Nemirovsky (A tragic look across classes at how French citizens endured Nazi occupation during WWII. Nemirovsky's life story told in letters in the afterward is almost more compelling than the novel itself.)

  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer (Want to give Foer an enormous hug after reading this book - beautiful.)

  • War and Peace, Tolstoy (My new motto: Life's too short to read War and Peace!)

  • The Wind Up Bird Chronicles, Murakami (Amazing surreal tale. One of my all time favorites.)

  • Lucky Jim, Kingsley Amis (Dry hilarity. Brilliant.)

Look Around You (Season One) is one the funniest things I've ever seen. It's a series of 10 minute episodes created by Robert Popper and Peter Serafinowicz that satire, or pay homage to, 70's and early 80's British educational films.

I absolutely love the music. The screen credit is "Gelg" but it's actually Popper and Serafinowicz who composed it. Pure analog synth love. I'm not positive but I think it's all done with a Moog. There's no soundtrack that I'm aware of but you check it out on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiMWJ1xBo8w

One of those episodes of "Look Around You" occasionally pop up around these parts. They are pure gold.

Other Tags: Mukesh, Bollywood, soundtracks

third floor music is currently one of my favorite blogs so if your a fan of bollywood soundtracks you'll love this site. i grew up in dubai where pirated cassettes cost a buck a piece and i would randomly pick a handful of indian film soundtracks during my tape shopping sprees. most of them are long lost so it's a real treat to be able to download full LPs from TFM. http://thirdfloormusic.blogspot.com/

this track is called "Aankhen Khulee Thhen" and is sung by the great singer Mukesh (pictured).

Wow! I wrote an R.D. Burman post before reading this. There's obviously some sort of Bollywood vibe on MOG tonight. Thanks, this is terrific!

I've been ridiculing this version of one of my favorite Fab tunes since... well, since it first aired in 1977. Thanks for the existance verification!
