The critics have been rather vocal in the UK, 'Jay-Z is the wrong choice for headliner of this year's Glastonbury Festival.'

The issues has been one of heated debate, but recently Jay-Z fired back.
He said: "It's ridiculous, if we don't embrace what is new, then how do we progress?"
He continued: "I've never actually experienced anything like that before.
"It's 2008, what is that about? That's such old school thinking, that's not even how the world thinks anymore. So I was really taken aback (by the criticism)."

Why not have Jay-Z play? Loads of people like him, there are zillions of other bands of different genres playing Glasto, something for everyone in that line up. The beastie boys played there in 1994 -what's the problem all of a sudden? Who knows!

I think Jay-Z is looking at this situation in the wrong light, he needs to realize that the rap-world that he represents is so bloated and tired that nobody at a festival such as Glastonbury wants to hear it. He say's that the people need to "...embrace what is new" then by his very words that would mean, not him.

For sure.

The problem is not that it's that people can't embrace what's new, it's that he just doesn't match with the festival.
That aside, I'm sure he's listening taking a lot of piss, and it's unfair, since it's not his fault, but the people's who invited him over.
Peace out.

He's totally wrong for Glasto .... totally anti the free festival ethos - his music is full of opression and ego
The mud hasnt put people off in the past....

I think we are currently in a era where they are taking chances with "headliners" at these festivals. Isn't Leonard Cohen slated (or just has) to headline one of those UK festivals? I'll bet half the kids going don't even know who he is.

So that's who they kept zooming in on (along with Ricky Gervais) at the "Coldplay" at the BBC show last week. He does look different in his glasses..I thought it was because he was the only black face they could find in the crowd.

Are we talking about the same festival here? Since when has Glastonbury been free? Not for 30 years. It used to cost £1 - now it costs £165. Eavis criticised the festival crowd for being mostly 30-somethings and wanted to attract the young. So he hired Jay-Z. And why not? The headliners this year are the usual suspects of white, indie fare and I am glad that there is a major black artist on the main stage.
Buddy Guy' also there - should we criticise him too?
All this talk of Jay-Z being innapropriate is really annoying. Glastonbury is not necessarily the best festival around in terms of best value. Why do you think so many people are going overseas? I've worked the festival for the past few years - I wouldn't pay for the festival. If I was going to pay - I'd go somewhere else. Shambala maybe.

Who's the best act you've seen at Glastonbury, Greenstone?
