WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

Artist:

Singer Morrissey has stepped in to save an anti-racism music festival from possible financial ruin.

As previously reported, Morrissey recently sued two magazines for suggesting he was racist. He won an apology from Word magazine for suggesting as much and a hypocrite. He is also suing the NME after it quoted him as saying Britain had lost its identity due to high levels of immigration.

uhhhh.....so he's not a racist, right?

The annual event began in London's Trafalgar Square in 1978, kick started by The Clash. This year's event is scheduled include The Good The Bad & The Queen, Jay Sean, Hard-Fi, The View and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly.

The Rock Against Racism concert is taking place in London on Sunday and organizers said it was facing a £75,000 deficit after a main sponsor withdrew. But the former Smiths singer has made a personal donation and rallied together his management, promoters and booking agency to help make up the shortfall.

The singer of The Smiths fame said it was a "historic event" that "must be allowed to go ahead".

He hailed the free event's "important, anti-racist, message".

Yes! It is an important message.

NME pulled out? that's scandalous! the Love Music Hate Racism campaign is a big deal. Roll Deep are regular participants, from which my fave contribution came last year:

Ok to say that england is loseing it's national identitiy due to immigration is valid. America's national identity is all about immigration and our being a melting pot for world cultures. England on the other hand has been around much longer and has until recently been mostly english irish scotch and whatever slaves they brought over. it's been a very set culture for hundreds of years so yes an influx of out side cultures would change england and it's identity. So I agree with morrissey as far as england is concerned. To say the same about America would be out of line tho cause we destroyed americas native culture ages ago and anthing in our culture now is from somwhere else even mom and apple pie is forign culture. So stop shooting off the R word with out thinking about it just to sell magazines and cause controversy.

danse - i agree with your general message about England's identity and America's. did you say that England brought slaves home? when was that? someone told me last week that England has never had slaves. so i'm trying to sort this out in my head. when i heard it last week, i realized that it is difficult for my head to grasp the concept of a culture with no history of slavery. it's just so omnipresent in my consciousness (born and bred in the US).

FWIW, Wikipedia is saying Britain did have slaves and I'd have a tough time believing any other story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abolitionism.
