MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album:

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke sent out a a rather quIRky meSSage to his TheEraser.com email list. In it he reminds us of the recently released series of remixes or "rmxs" of 3 tracks from The Eraser(XL), his solo album released July 2006.

Although the tracks are 'available for download' they are not free. Boomkat.com has priced all 3 tracks at a non negotiable £2.95. No In Rainbows free ride here folks.

As for In Rainbows, AKA the free Radiohead album, the group's change in paradigm could be seen and purchased yesterday(Dec. 25) in Japan. The album made it's debut as a standard CD and vinyl version available in stores. Elsewhere around the world, it will be released on December 31.

Yorke's message:

please excuse this addiTion to YouR pile of email.

Since Radiohead has announced that no one but they know the financial results of their In Rainbows experiment, the telling point will be if they do it again. This is not an encouraging sign that it was successful.

How could it not have been successful? No overhead for marketing/manufacture excepting the physical box - which is an amazing package - means profit from MP3's.

I think there's a sensibility on display in this email that perfectly illustrates why I just don't get Thom or his band. Like, why make everything so difficult? Why not just adhere, more or less, to standard capitalization and spelling? I mean, okay, there's being a rule-breakin' rebel, and then there's just being difficult. What's the point of making your self-promotional email hard to read? Same deal with the content of the email. If someone's signed up for his email list, it's presumably because they want to get these kind of emails. Why the apology? Like I said, I just don't get it.

Dermahrk is an idiot... the album was #1 on Billboard after its free release.

mrscry: #1 on Billboard doesn't mean anyone made a profit, and on MOG we do not call people idiots unless they've earned it. I assure you D has proved his chops here.

Mktackabery, you're one ugly moron. I bet your fatter than your photo conveys, and the photo conveys 44 lbs overweight. But back to you being an idiot, look at your friend's posting, and then look at mine, and it should make sense.

It's so easy to stand in the shadows and offer broad cliched insults in a hope they hit the mark, especially shot from the bow of the invisible poster lacking credentials After all, every female in the world is worried about her weight, and how others interpret her looks and intelligence, aren't they? Sturgell, I apologize for this infant pissing on your blog.
