Charges Against Accused Shooter Of Ray Davies Dismissed (Redux)

Charges against Jerome Barra, the man accused of shooting lead singer and co-founder of the legendary British rock group The Kinks Ray Davies, have been dropped for the second time. The Orleans Parish District Attorney's office dismissed armed robbery and aggravated charges against Jerome Barra, 28, because of Davies' absence from court, according to The Times-Picayune.Davies said prosecutors notified him only a few days earlier that the trial was scheduled for Thursday (July 26). He said he just didn't have time to get to New Orleans from London,.??Ray Davies??"I am very disappointed with the way this case has been handled," Davies said Thursday. "I intend to pursue it further."The charges against Barra stem from an incident on Jan. 4, 2004 where Davies was shot in the leg after chasing the man accused of stealing a friend's pocketbook.The first was in 2005. That time, prosecutors reserved the right to resume prosecution. This time, they closed the case.A spokesperson for the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office said Davies' absence made it impossible to continue.Davies and his brother, Dave Davies, founded The Kinks in London in 1963. In the United States, the rock band reached the charts with such hit songs as "You Really Got Me" and "Lola."   1. Mike the Knife says As I said in response to fairportfan's earlier post, you've got to testify if you want to see justice done. Whether the NoLa courts or Ray screwed up, everyone should make certain that a trial is rescheduled.
