Arctic Monkeys lashed out the upcoming (July 7) Live Earth series of worldwide performances, citing the hypocrisy of the event which promotes 'awareness of climate change' while draining copious amount of energy itself."We're using enough power for ten houses just for lighting," drummer Matt Helders explained to AFP. "It'd be a bit hypocritical [if we played Live Earth]."Bass player Nick O'Malley chimes in: "And we're always jetting off on aeroplanes!"
??Arctic Monkeys??Large parts of the band's hometown of Sheffield, an industrial city in northern England, were flooded at the end of last month after a group of fierce mid-summer rain which killed two people. Some have blamed the flooding on global warming. "Someone asked us to give a quote about what was happening in Sheffield and it's like 'who cares what we think about what's happening'?" added Helders, explaining his confusion of what qualifies him to address complex scientific issues, being a rock star (??which outlines the groups overall tone against Live Earth??)."There's more important people who can have an opinion. Why does it make us have an opinion because we're in a band?" "MORE HERE":CH[CH]http://www.mywire.com/pubs/AFP/2007/07/04/3900766?pbl=289
