The Mamas & the Papas: The Movie?

Artist:
Rumors that a movie about the Mamas and the Papas were ??nearly?? confirmed, but according to the band's lone surviving member, it's closer now than ever to becoming a reality, according to Billboard."It's not something I can really talk about in detail," Michelle Phillips said, "but I will say this -- it will happen, and it will happen in a good way. The gears are all churning."
??Michelle Phillips??Phillips penned her 1986 memoir "California Dreamin': The True Story of the Mamas and the Papas," which has apparently become the basis for the film. In the drudgery of producing a feature film, Phillips reassures her fans that the buzz is no hot air: "we have an A-list writer and we do have a studio."Citing the success of movie biopics such as "Ray" and "Walk the Line," Phillips feels they helped generate more interest for the Mamas and the Papas story in Hollywood."Before that, studios were not interested in stories about musicians," she says. "I mean, this i not a musical, per se; this is not a musical like 'Dreamgirls' where people are gonna break out into songs. This is the story of the Mamas and the Papas -- and, of course, there'll be a lot of music in it."If the film is made, should we look for Phillips to have a role in it? She explained: "I'm not working right now as an actress. If a great part comes along, I'll go back to work. But at this point, I'm certainly not stressing over it."
The Mamas & The Papas recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968(again in 1971 – 1972), releasing five albums and achieving ten hit singles; while they were active for a relatively short time, some group members pointed to their limited time in the spotlight as a reason why they had loyal fans.Out of their singles, "California Dreamin'" is one of their most memorable. In November 1965 the song charted at #4 in the US and #23 in the UK. The song re-charted in the UK at #9 in 1997. "Monday, Monday" (March 1966) topped the US charts at #1 and hit #3 in the UK."Click Here For More Info":CH[CH]http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003593088

You have to realize that most of the songs written by John Phillips and sung by the Mamas and Papas were written based on things that happened in the group. "I Saw Her Again Last Night" was based on Michelle's affair with Denny, while "Young Girls are Coming to the Canyon" was in reference to all the girls who "visited" Denny when he moved to Laurel Canyon. Therefore, I don't think you can make a movie and not include the drama that occured within the group since their music was based on the drama.
