"Outlaw Country" Musician, Billy Joe Shaver has got some explaining to do. Shaver shot a man in the face last Saturday night at a Texas Saloon and insists it was self defense.But eyewitnesses claim otherwise.Shaver's 1973 album ??Old Five and Dimers Like Me?? is a classic in the Outlaw Country genre. Among other accomplishments away from the music world, Shaver also served as "Spiritual Advisor" to Texas independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman.Billy Bryant Coker, claims Shaver shot him in the face in the parking lot of Papa Joe's Texas Saloon in the town of Lorena after asking him, "Where do you want it?"The event escalated to gun fire after it was established that the 67-year-old singer-songwriter's wife, Wanda, was the widow of Coker's cousin. At that point, Coker says, Shaver invited him to go outside, where Shaver popped one off in the 50 year's left cheek. Coker was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.Joseph A. Turner, Shaver's attorney has another account of the events. Turner claimed that the musician was protecting himself from a belligerent, knife-wielding, drunk patron whom he didn't know.Lou Ewing, a bystander at the event in questions has backed Coker's account. He clams after hearing gunfire outside the bar, and then rushing to the scene, he witnessed Shaver say to Coker, "Tell me you are sorry," followed by "nobody tells me to shut up."Ewing stated that Shaver then "left quickly" with wife Wanda.Another witness to the attack, Michael Strickland stated he watched as the performer asked Shaver, "Where do you want it?" then leveled the handgun in Coker's face and pulled the trigger.Neither witness mentioned that Coker was displaying a knife.Tuesday night, after posting bail, the musician played a show at Austin's Waterloo Records, to promote his new greatest hits collection. Shaver, has been quoted in the local papers as saying to the crowd of some 200 people at the event:

Don't forget to pray for me, and tell your kids to pray for me, too.
