Starbucks: Slingin' Mochas/Buying SOULS

Posted over 2 years ago
"Yahoo!":YASEATTLE - Starbucks Corp.'s push into entertainment moved further from the coffeehouse shelves Monday as the company launched a record label based on its existing Hear Music brand. The world's largest specialty coffee retailer said it would partner with Concord Music Group, which controls several other labels and helped Starbucks sell the Grammy-winning "Genius Loves Company," an album of Ray Charles duets.-Any band on the Starbucks label must feel like this kid. You made it all this way, in a race with all these crazy people, just to make it near the finish line and get caught in a vomit fit. It's a rough world. Starbucks Record labels or not.[YA]http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070313/ap_en_mu/starbucks_record_label;_ylt=Ap_RPvA1lrJuD6B1fqMb6qCVEhkF

  1. Spike says Nice nihilist metaphor you've given us. Where did that evocative image come from? A well-meaning friend gave me a copy of "Genius Loves Company," and it had a good cut on it, Take 6 doing "Unchain My Heart" without Ray Charles. The snob in me usually steers clear of duet albums, especially all the ones with the cellist Yo-Ma-Ma on them.

  2. Rawkkiddoh says These coffee chains kill me. I used to work at Caribou Coffee when in college. They let us bring in our own music as long as it was relaxing. Then Starbucks started with their music thing, and we were told that we had to play what the people in corporate told us to. Nothing was worse than listening to the same 20 shitty songs during an 8 hours shift.
