Sigur Ros' Track Used For The New Prince Of Persia Game

Posted about 1 year ago

The Icelandic group Sigur Ros song has been used in the trailer for the forthcoming new edition of classic computer game 'Prince Of Persia,' reports NME.

Thier tsong 'Saeglopur', taken from their 2005 album Takk...(Geffen), is used in the new trailer for the action game(below).

It just goes to show the money involved in the video game industry; being able to pluck one of the most popular bands for their commercial efforts, and I bet the bands' don't mind the money either.

With music gaining prominance in today's video games, popular musical acts are more and more likely to be featured on the soundtracks and promotional efforts to the latest and greatest games. It's understandable this lucrative racket is becoming the apple of the eye of many bands. While the money is quick, the effort is generally minimal (generally, as simple as signing rights over to game developers) per se.

One thing I remember from one of my international business classes is that there are two products that never see downturn even during economic hardship.  The first is alcohol, which obviously, is used during all occasions, good or bad.  The second, video games.  In a world that is always in need of some form of entertainment and is too busy to parent its children, they need to keep kids occupied somehow.  And of course with parents spending, kids have more disposable income.  If you are considering the gaming industry for professional work, I highly recommend it.

what a coincedence, my favourite ever sigur ros song :) strange though, they've said themselves they're very picky about allowing their music to be used in commercials etc. having turned down millions from big companies in the past. so this must be a very special game! that or an insane amount of money.

^i remember reading that too. they said they didnt want to sell out to some bank in england for like 20 secs of one of their tracks. so im a little shocked that they would do it for this game. and honestly i dont think it goes well with the commercial. :/

I agree Sam. It seemed out of context. Icelandic indie rockers meet a video game about a Persian prince?

I think you would be surprised how much a video game could influence a band. Look at Aerosmith, I am guessing a few years back no one would have thought they would lend their talents to a full blown music game, but now its out there for the public to get. I am guessing someone in the band is a fan of the game and they jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the project. I know if I was in a similar position there are about 10 games I would love to hear music I created in.

Like Iggy Pop said about whoring "Lust For Life" to car companies, it's the only way people hear his music anymore! I say make a buck however you can in this business...

Thanks for the trailer.  Played a bit of the first POP for the PS2, and it was quite fun, though it didn't keep my attention to the end.  Unsure about this game - though I shall try the demo when it comes out.  The trailer is very pretty!
