Artist:
The moumental song 'Peace' written by John Lennon fetched nearly $850k at an auction at the Christie Auctionhouse in New York City.
Written in 1969 Bed-in protest for peace at the Queens Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, the tune was originally credited to Lennon/McCartney (John Lennon and Paul McCartney). However, when Lennon's posthumous live album with Elephant's Memory, Live in New York City (recorded in 1972), was reissued in the 1990s, "Give Peace a Chance" was credited solely to Lennon.

The famous 'bed-in'
McCartney was reportedly given cowriting credit as a gesture of gratitude for his help in recording Lennon's 'The Ballad of John and Yoko' the previous April, and accepting it for release as a Beatles single.

Christie's spokeswoman Zoe Schoon said Lennon gave the sheet to 16-year-old Gail Renard during the eight-day Bed-in. Renard, (above), poses in front of the handwritten by John Lennon lyrics for the song 'Give Peace A Chance' song, that was sold in a Christie's auction for 350,000 british pounds, $833,654, in London, Thursday July 10, 2008. Renard was given the note by John Lennon himself when he along with his wife Yoko Ono staged the famous Bed-In demonstration in a hotel room in Montreal, Canada in 1969.)

all we are saying is give overpaying a chance
Zing!
I wouldnt pay a plug nickel for that God awful piece of junk.
a bunch was spent recently for the drum head used on the Sgt. Pepper cover as well.
Yeah, I heard about that...wasn't it upwards of $100K?
£450,000 for the drum head. If you go on Christies.com, you can find the auction results which were last Wed. There's a load of other Beatles material, as well as some pretty amazing prices for a Jimi Hendrix amp head, plus Floyd, Zep and Stones. Oh, and T Rex.
That's a lot of gump!
That's crazy! Where did the money go, exactly?
We've been told by our leaders that the cost of "Peace" is high, but this is ridick...
I still have a stub pencil from a bank that closed in Casper Wyoming back in the 50's. We'll start the bidding at $10,000.00! Hello?
Maybe an old door latch from arminto Wyoming that no longer exsists?
Start at $5,000. (In my best Maxwell Smart voice) Would you believe I have an ol 7UP glass (yes, glass!) pop bottle for a dollar?
Why spend money saving the rainforests when you can buy Babe Ruth's baseball cap for around $800,000? Scharppslicer's stub pencil, on the other hand, is a bargain.
