YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

France's First Lady Blasted In The Press

Posted about 1 year ago

The press has all but thrown the kitchen sink at Carla Bruni, wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The Italian singer-songwriter and former model's recent album Comme si de rien n'était was officialy released today, but that didn't stop the press from getting advanced copies and bashing it. Initially the album drew some bad press over lyrics comparing her husband to Afghani heroin and Colombian coke, reports Yahoo

Some of the more scathing reviews:

• In a two-page review, the Independent calls her the "first lady…of schmaltz," saying her music is "simpering and weedy." • The Guardian notes: "When she sings, in 'Je Suis une Enfant,' that she remains a little girl 'despite my 40 years, despite my 30 lovers,' for instance, that doesn't exactly sound what you might call presidential." (Bruni has been previously attached to Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, among others.) • The Times said it could be "the best album ever made by the wife of a head of state…Even if the only other contender in the field hadn't been the 1989 record that Imelda Marcos made of her husband's favorite love songs." Even on the home front the reviews have been brutal, which, Bruni says, makes her feel "hurt."

"Of course it hurts me, but I also find it quite natural," Bruni told France's RTL radio Friday.

"It's understandable that people can't help mixing up my work as an artist and my function. Maybe they feel offended by the fact the head of state's wife should make a record," she said.

Seriously! Are they just attacking her because she's a former model? The way they talk, she's depicted as Sarkozy's trophy wife, like a figurehead. She hasn't done anything bad to her country...

methinks they're attacking her because silly critics feel big bashing someone important.

There is also ??this?? possibility:  Politics.  The chattering class in France is ??Still?? upset that the people chose the conservative **Sarkozy**.

This is no defense of Bruni's music, which I'm unfamiliar with, but something that has ALWAYS bothered me about music reviews is the assumption that all lyrics are written in the first person. Applying this reasoning to writing, all novels are autobiographical?

Depends on who you ask. There are some who write from experience, while others write for a good story line.

You know what else bugs me. Music criticism that focuses almost entirely on the LYRICS! It's not a novel, dude!

i just saw the cheesiest interview with her on like pbs or something in which she was talking about her life as a model etc. and how models have no responsibilities other than to look skelataly beautiful. If the pictures turn out wrong, it's the photographers fault. If the clothes are ugly, it's the designer's fault. If the make-up is ugly, well you get the point. She seems awefully arrogant. Thank god Tyra is around to instill some sort of responsibilty in these models.
