Scott Weiland Announces New Solo Album; STP Wrap Up

Posted about 1 year ago

Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland has set October 7 as the release date for his yet-to-be-titled second solo album. Weiland has been working on the project for several years and will issue it through his own label, Softdrive Records. The record will follow up his 1998 solo debut, 12 Bar Blues, and Weiland explains his new work one is a natural progression.

"It'll definitely be a sonic journey like the first album was, a little bit more focused since I'm not on a narcotic journey like I was on the last one. But, you know, still sort of all over the map, because my influences are so wide and varied."

He continues:
"Its gonna be awesome, with many different musical influences like rock, punk, r&b as well as an eclectic blend that we've come up with over the years. Can't wait for everyone to hear it. I'm also in the process of writing my autobiography along with famed writer David Ritz, also due out toward the end of the year. It will be a collection of stories, experiences and lessons throughout my life. Definitely a good read."

Weiland, along with his Stone Temple Pilots band mates are making a come back after six years away from the center stage. The group split up largely in part due to Weiland's drug problems. He spent a month in rehab earlier this year, following an arrest last November on a DUI charge as previously reported.

In Other news

Stone Temple Pilots are in the middle of an extensive reunion tour. The nearly 50 stop North America trot is just the beginning of the end of their six year hiatus.

Their official return to the stage was on Saturday, May 17 in front of tens of thousands when they headlined the first day of the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.

Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz were recently sued by the group's label, Atlantic Records, who allege that the pair have issued threats to stop performing unless their recording contract is changed.

I'll be amazed if he makes it thru the summer STP tour.

Crazy video -- forgot about that one.  Nice hair.  When I heard their first single, I thought STP was a Pearl Jam ripoff, but I came around.  I like a lot of their stuff.  I did not like Velvet Revolver very much, but Scott is rock star out of central casting.

I like Weiland as a singer and a frontman.  Not crazy about him as a person these days.

I saw Stone Temple Pilots when they were here in San Diego two weeks ago.  If Scott Weiland wasn't high as a kite that night, then I've lost my drug-sniffing abilities! He made it through a lengthy show-Thank God-and seemed to remember the lyrics too! He finally came over to my front row area and I held out my hand to this poor man. How I would love to accompany him on this tour and keep him clean and pointed in the right direction. I could see it in his eyes what was going on with him and it wasn't a pretty picture. EVERYONE-pray for Scott W. that he makes it through and has a good showing with his 2nd solo album. Then Maybe someone can get him into hard-core REHAB where he'll Clean up for good! He has talent for sure & is sexy as hell, drug-addled or not!
