Coldplay are on course to earn their first ever number one single in the UK. Early sales figures for their latest release, Viva La Vida show the group to be edging out the lot, reports the BBC.
Although the song has caused a bit of controversity... sort of.
As previously reported, Brooklyn-based Creaky Boards claimed they were the true authors of Coldplay's new successfu single. A video posted on Youtuve alleged that fronmant Martin stole the tune when he saw them perform live at New York's CMJ music festival in October 2007.

Back to the single....
The song comes from their most recent album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (also known as Viva la Vida) which was released last week on June 12.
The BBC reports the race to the number one spot likely to be close when the final chart is announced as the eight biggest-selling tracks are separated by fewer than 2,000 sales each. Mint Royale's remix of "Singin' in the Rain" and "Closer" by Ne-Yo are also in making a respectable run for this week's number one position, which is announced on Sunday.
Down the list are likely to be new entries from the Subways and Billiam, while Cage the Elephant appear set to break into the top 40 for the first time, with "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked."
Back in 2005, Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" came close to topping the singles chart, but the group was denied by Crazy Frog.

Not too sure what I think. It doesn't quite seem like Coldplay ripped that group to me at least.
Hmmm interesting. I don't know either.. cuz I wasn't there.. and I'd need more info... it sounds pretty similar. I guess it will be interesting to see what will happen with this.
i bet we'll hear that Chris wasn't at CMJ at all that year or a demo from 2006..
either they both just wrote what i think are pretty cool songs, or it's one of those times that a song evolved from something previously heard and stored deep in the brain.
either way, they sound QUITE similar and i'm gonna check out more Creaky Boards tracks.
afterthought: mission accomplished for the Boards, eh?
Perhaps... just checked out their MySpace and their website.. they have a cool sound. Wishing them the best of luck.
hahahaha......denied by crazy frog, that made me laugh out loud
I was thinking about this story today... and I thought about something that I am not sure many musicians DO think about. Once you play your songs, you better make sure you have them recorded and sent to yourself, or pay the Copyright office so that you have proof that it is indeed your song. Always ALWAYS back up your work... something I do all the time.
Good point Kori, with all the scammers out there it can't hurt just to make sure you get credit for what you've created.
