Chuck Berry Wont Sing For McCain

Posted about 1 year ago
Republican candidate John McCain may have used his song in the U.S. presidential campaign, but veteran rock 'n' roller Chuck Berry has no doubt whom he wants to see in the White House next year."America has finally come to this point where you can pick a man of color and that not be a drawback," the legendary 81-year-old guitarist said of Barack Obama, who clinched the Democratic presidential nomination last week and would become the country's first black president if he wins in November."It's no question, myself being a man of color ... I mean, you have to feel good about it," Berry, himself a black pioneer in the 1950s music scene, told Reuters by phone from New York ahead of a Brazil tour that starts next week."Definitely a proud and successful moment for all the people of this country, not just black people, but Americans in general.""MORE HERE":CH[CH]http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080609/music_nm/berry_dc

  4. TynansAnger says As 30 Rock will have is believe, there aren't going to be a lot of black supporters for McCain (except for the deceased Sammy Davis Jr., a closet Republican, apparently).

  12. Wotmoney Tribe says I saw Chuck Berry in Austin, TX about 2 years ago and he was still rocking hard at age 79. Music and politics usually don't mix anyway. To each their own. Long live Chuck!

  13. Konkrypton says I'd like to think he supports Obama for reasons OTHER than that he's black, but I'm not fooling myself. Don't get me wrong, I support Obama too, but because I like his politics, not his color. The fact that he's also going to be the first black President is just frosting on the cake, as far as I'm concerned. Given that Berry has been in jail what, 3 times, I'm not sure it matters who he supports: As a convicted felon he can't vote anyway.
